Year 8 STEAM Project- Fostering Creative and Critical Thinking
8A and 8F have come together this term to work on a STEAM project. Our Class Leaders have put together some reflections talking about the project they are working on.
For the first time, Doncaster Secondary College has started the STEAM program standing for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. In the program, students get the opportunity to get creative and use their skill sets to create and design working machinery and more. As part of the design, we went on an excursion to a recycle shed to collect our materials.

One of the 4 school values is teamwork, and the STEAM project embraces that. Students are divided into groups and have to work together to make a perpetual motion machine. Every lesson they work together to make their project and improve it. They have to test, evaluate and improve their simple machine as best they can. This project shows a lot of trial and error, and students have shown heaps of resilience in perfecting their designs.

This term 8A and 8F are working towards building a perpetual motion that spins for a long period of time. My group is building a machine that is shaped like a fidget spinner. We believe that our construction should spin for a long time because we have magnets on it which will attract other magnets so therefore it will keep spinning.
