Numeracy Picture Story Books

The Numeracy Committee have purchased 15 new picture story books that come highly recommended by the Mathematics Association of Victoria (MAV) as being rich in Maths language. The books cover concepts such as addition, place value, fractions, telling the time, volume, capacity, 2D shapes and following directions, and are complemented by lessons and activities for teachers to use.

A wide range of library books covering a variety of Maths concepts have also been added to the Numeracy Picture Story Book teacher borrowing system.

A BIG thank you to Kristy Redwood (Eloise's mum from 1A) for kindly contacting the new Numeracy Picture Story Books for the school. Thank you also to the many parents who offered to help!

Numeracy at Home

As a parent it is difficult to know how to support your child’s Maths learning at home. The DET website Numeracy at Home provides parents with information, advice and activities to complete with children at home to support Numeracy learning and engagement. We encourage you to explore this VERY valuable resource!

EdShop Maths

Our school subscribes to EdShop Maths and receives weekly worded Maths based problems based on current topics shared in the media. Not only do students learn about current events, they also build on their problem-solving skills.

There are four levels of difficulty (lower, middle, upper and extension) and the questions cover all areas of the Maths curriculum. We thought we would share some with you to work on with your child at home (PDFs for each level attached below).

Enjoy!

Maths in Prep

This week the Preps have been learning all about the number 9 and different ways we can make patterns using colours and shapes. We have recently started our differentiated Maths groups which have been very exciting for the Preps.
