Associate Principal, Operations Report

Senior School Staffing 2018
As we prepare to farewell Mr Tim Arnold and Mr David Wilson after nine and seven years of service respectively, and as Mr Tim Budenberg delays his farewell by travelling to Cambodia with our World Challenge group which returns on December 23rd, parents and families will be keen to know the appointments made to replace them. Some of these appointments have already been announced but it may be useful to provide a complete overview of changes for 2018.
Mr Ralph Carolan has been appointed Deputy Principal: Teaching and Learning. Mr Carolan returns to Victoria from the Cathedral School in Townsville. Prior to moving north, he was known for his excellent contributions to the English Faculty at Brighton Grammar School. Mr Carolan will teach some classes of English here next year and he is already well into the planning processes for his move to Western Victoria.
Folllowing her excellent work this year as Acting Director of Teaching and Learning, Mrs Rebekah Bonnett has been appointed Head of VCE Studies. This will involve her supporting Mr Carolan, particularly with matters relating to the VCE and student subject choice at the end of Year 10 and Year 11. Mrs Bonnett will work with me on VCE matters next year. She also returns to the position of Head of Science in 2018.
Mrs Susan Bradbeer has been appointed Head of English. She is already well-known as a teacher of quality here and we look forward to her building on the fine work of Mr Wilson.
Mrs Nerrida Prosser has been appointed Head of Berry House. She has already been involved in some planning for House-related matters next year and we look forward to seeing her in charge of the juggernaut which is Berry House!
Our Chemistry teacher next year will be Mr Heinrich Burmeister. Mr Burmeister and his young family will arrive in Hamilton in the next week or so to begin settling in, not only to the town but to Australia as they move from South Africa. Mr Burmeister has seven years of experience teaching a similar course to the VCE programme in his home country and brings with him excellent reports of his contributions to the broader life of his school.
In Mathematics, we have appointed Ms Katie Budenberg. Yes, there is a family connection but Ms Budenberg taught here one day earlier this year as a Relief Teacher, impressing all with her abilities in the classroom. She also has excellent academic credentials and is qualified to teach in a range of subjects in addition to Mathematics. In addition, she has obviously heard good things about us!
Finally, Ms Elisha Nettleton has taken over as Head of Rowing. I note that some crews are off to a regatta this weekend – virtually as soon as Mr Budenberg has left the country! – so rowing is obviously in good hands!
Mr Nelson has previously advised teaching allocations at the Junior School for next year.
