Junior School Bus Travel

This week saw a number of our new students travelling by bus to and from home for the first time. It was terrific to see some of our older students in Years Five and Six offer to be bus buddies for our younger travellers.  Safe bus travel and a strong bus culture are  important aspects of our College offer to new families.

2020 House Captaincy Selections

Interested Year Six students will deliver prepared speeches to their House teachers and fellow students on Friday afternoon.  This will be a public speaking opportunity for them.  Students have been given a role description for the position of House Captain, and will address this criteria in their speeches.  Students and teachers in each House will vote on Friday.  These votes will be tabled at a staff meeting in Week Three and our 2020 Captains will be selected.  At College, we are honest and upfront about seeking the best students to fill leadership positions.  Our new arrivals to Year Six have every opportunity to deliver a quality speech and be considered to lead a House.  The eight selected House Captains will join Evie Kennedy and Hugh Stratmann in a 10-strong leadership team.  Best of luck to all Year Sixes.

House Swimming Carnival - 2020

Next Friday, 14th February, the Junior School ventures to Hughan Park Outdoor Pool for the House Swimming carnival.  It is our first House competition for 2020.  Five-year-old to nine-year-old 25m events will kick off the day at 9.30 am.  Junior School Sports Coordinator Mrs Louise Patterson has geared these events for student participation and enjoyment.  All five year old to nine year old 25m events are across the shallow end of the pool.  Years Three to Six events will follow.  All nine-year-old to 12/13 year old events are held from 12:00 pm. Prep, Year One and Year Two parents may take their children home at the conclusion of the morning programme.  Young House were triumphant in 2019.  No doubt Berry, Laidlaw and Learmonth Houses will be trying their best to foil a repeat result.  Mrs Patterson is looking for parent helpers on the day.  If you would like to volunteer, please contact Mrs Povey at Junior School reception.

Junior School Teacher/Parent Information Afternoon

Next Wednesday, 12th February is our Teacher/Parent Information afternoon.  This event was initially advertised to start at 5.00pm.  Due to a clash with the Year Seven Information Night, we have moved the Junior School start time to 3.30pm.  We have a number of families who have children across several year levels, so we have done our best to stagger times and allow families to access as many classroom sessions as possible.  Teachers will supply a printed summary of their presented information to families who are unable to attend classroom sessions.  This is a great opportunity to touch base with your child’s teacher and get up to speed with classroom expectations and weekly routines.  Class Parent Rep positions will be on offer and we would love some eager parents to take on this important role.

Information sessions in classrooms:

  • 3:30 pm – Piccino / Piccolo and Year Six
  • 3:45 pm – Year Two
  • 4:00 pm – Prep and Year One
  • 4:15 pm – Year Five
  • 4:30 pm – Year Four

The Year Three Information session will be run at a later date. AS soon as the date is set, we will let parents know.
