From the Assistant Principal

100 Days in the 5s

It was such an honour to celebrate with the 5s as they reached their 100 days of school. We played musical chairs, danced, roasted marshmallows and shared our 100 collections (I brought along 100 smarties!!).

PYP Authorisation

Next week Arlington will host two representatives from the International Baccalaureate Organisation who will be meeting with teachers, students and parents as part of our authorisation for the Primary Years Programme (PYP). They will be visiting classrooms to observe teaching and learning as well as looking through our planning and documentation to ensure we are meeting the rigorous requirements of the IB PYP Standards and Practices. It is a thorough process which we are ready and quite excited for.

The teachers have been working hard and I am thrilled (and quietly nervous) to showcase the high-quality teaching and learning that happens each day at Preshil. We are lucky to have a dedicated group of educators and have appreciated the courageous leadership of our PYP Coordinator, Cressida.

Small Schools Research

Over the holiday break I was invited to Western Australia to join a small schools network, initiated by the Association of Independent Schools Western Australia (AISWA). This was the first meeting of small progressive schools and  its purpose was to bring us together from all over Australia for a day of engagement, connection, thinking, sharing and dreaming!

We were hosted by progressive Moerlina School in Mt Claremont where we engaged in rigorous and rich conversation around the notion of small schools 'being in research’.  We have continued these pedagogical conversations over the past weeks through an online group where we are sharing in a spirit of generosity with a commitment to rich dialogue.

It is always nice to share what we do at Preshil and also learn from other schools. Preshil continues to have a strong voice in these networks and I was honoured, on behalf of Preshil, to represent progressive schooling in Victoria.

5s 2020 Transition Days

The first of the transition days for our 2020 5s is on Tuesday, 20 August 9.30am – 11am. This will be a parent information session about the teaching and learning at Preshil and is an opportunity for families to ask questions and meet other parents.

On Tuesday 3 September from 9.30am – 11am

during the second transition session, we welcome the 2020 5s families to a morning tea to be held in our Sitting Room with Marilyn. We will be joined by current families, together with some of our specialist staff, to let you know more about specific programs such as music, second languages and special events.

Our final transition morning will be held on Tuesday 17 September from 9.30am – 11am.

2020 Enrolments

As we finalise 2020 enrolments and classes across all levels of the School, please let us know as soon as possible if you have a sibling who intends to enrol for next year.

Who Do I Contact?

As your child progresses through school, you may have concerns about their progress both academically and socially. Your first point of contact should always be your child's classroom or specialist teacher. You are welcome to make a time to talk to the teacher or meet with them personally to discuss and resolve any concerns.

Most concerns are resolved at a classroom level, however, if this is not the case or if the matter is more serious and needs higher level support please do not hesitate to contact me or Marilyn.
