Principal's Report

Principal's Report
We are already coming to the end of week four of the term and there have been many opportunities for students, parents and staff members to come together to collaborate and discuss student progress and achievements.
Unit 3/4 Parent Teacher Interviews
We have conducted parent/teacher/student interviews for our students completing Unit 3/4 subjects. These sessions allow our Year 12 students an opportunity to receive feedback early as they plan for the final stages of their studies. This has enabled our students to reflect and further develop their strategies to ensure that goals are achieved. All of our students are encouraged to:
- Keep up to date with the work and consolidating notes and revision
- Maintain a high attendance rate and fully prepare for class by pre-reading notes and finishing off tasks and revision
- Ask questions in and outside of class and having a growth mindset that they can do well
- Reflect on feedback and set goals for improvement
- Aim for excellence through determination and commitment to doing their best
- Review and practice exam type questions to increase confidence
- Work with others in study groups and to give and gain support from peers
- Maintain good health by getting enough sleep, eating well and fitting in time for exercise and leisure activities.
The Senior School team and teachers were very pleased with the positive atmosphere and commitment of parents and students to attend this session.
Information Sessions and Careers Expo
The Careers, Senior and Middle School Teams have conducted a number of sessions for students and parents to provide them with information regarding academic programs for 2019. Thank-you to the staff for providing very informative sessions in and outside school time. Thank-you to the parents and student for supporting our sessions. A well received and attended Careers Expo provided access for students to meet with representatives from a variety of Universities and TAFES. Information was provided about future courses, potential subject pre-requisites enables students and parents to make informed subject choices.
One to One Interviews
Students in Years 9, 10 and 11 recently participated in individual interviews to discuss subject selections with members of the Senior Team, Careers team and Principal Team.
The conversations were very useful to ensure subject selections were appropriate for student interest and future ambitions. We were delighted with the involvement of so many parents who gave up time to attend with their children. This is another example of our community members working together in a partnership of education.
College Musical- The Drowsy Chaperone
What a fantastic show! Once again the College production was a triumph and I felt so proud to see the performances and the whole professional package. The show was highly entertaining and very funny. It was beautifully cast, with intricate sets, rousing music, song and dance combined with entrancing costumes and smooth and professional lighting and sound transitions. Many audience members followed up with multiple viewings. I saw it on four different occasions and each show was different. All aspects of the show continued to develop from opening night to closing night. Congratulations to all staff, students, past students and parents who have worked together to produce this show.
As always the fact that so many students from all year levels with staff, parental and past student support, commit so many hours to work together is one of the best outcomes of such an event.
An experience such as this provides great lessons for future success. Participants learn to work together to achieve something great. They also develop resilience and responsibility as they continue to participate when they are tired or run down. They also demonstrate the ability to keep going when they make mistakes and take it all in their stride. The relationships and respect which is formed when like-minded people work together are powerful. There is an understanding of the importance of teamwork also, a show relies as much on those behind the scenes as it does on those on the stage.
Well done to all involved! A detailed acknowledgement is included in this newsletter.
PD Day
On Tuesday August 14, the College will be conducting the Term 3 Professional Development Day with a focus on Literacy for Learning across the Curriculum. All teachers will be completing a learning module and working together in teams to set goals for incorporating literacy strategies to support students in all classrooms. The teachers have been working through a challenging literacy program throughout this year, following on from the work done last year. The commitment to our students and the focus by all staff on continual improvement is extremely positive.
Interact Trivia Night
If you are looking for a night of fun and liked to be challenged, get some friends together and book a table. Let's support our student leaders and Interact Club for a great cause. Students have spent a great deal of time to ensure a successful event.
