WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY  30 OCTOBER 2020

World Teachers' Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the valuable work and celebrate the wonderful achievements made by teachers. In this most extraordinary year, teachers truly have been "leading in crisis & re-imagining the future".  This year is an exceptional one above many other years, and I would like to acknowledge the dedication and commitment our Teachers and Learning Support Officers demonstrate in the work that they do.  Many of you have seen first hand how they manage and support the learning of the children they teach. This year it has been extraordinarily different and our team have applied themselves and given their best throughout the whole of the Distance Learning period.

Once upon a time a powerful King decided to honour the greatest person in the Kingdom. He sent out messages to every part of the his Kingdom to find the heroes of the land. On the appointed day, those chosen assembled in the throne room.

The wealthiest person in the Kingdom was there alongside the most influential author. The leading doctor stood with the famous scientist. There was a celebrated lawyer who had won many courtroom battles. A brilliant musician and a gifted artist. Men and women of talent, achievement and status.

The King gazed at the glittering assembly of talented and successful people and wondered how he was ever going to choose which was the greatest amongst them. Then he noticed a white-haired woman standing quietly at the back of the room. People paused as they came near her and greeted her with dignity and respect. She had eyes that shone with knowledge, understanding and love.

“Who is this woman?” demanded the King. “Why is she here? What has she done?”

“My Lord”, replied the Chief Minister. “You have met and spoken to all the greatest people of your Kingdom. This, my Lord, is their teacher.”

All the people gathered in the Hall erupted into applause. The King came down from his throne to honour her.

For no matter how great the achievements, how great the person, all success begins with learning. Honour those who teach and together you will truly touch the future.
