Celebrate Book Week - Curious Creatures/ Wild Minds
Escape Room fun - Make a group of five or six and come to the library at recess or lunchtime to release the curious creature. Use your wild minds to solve the puzzles and unlock the creature. This activity will run until the end of October.
Year 9 Connections: Challenge Day 1 (Wednesday 21 October)
A reminder that all Year 9 students will be participating in the first Challenge Day on Wednesday 21 October. Students are to wear full sports uniform and need to have plenty of food and drink for the day. The Challenge will begin at 9am sharp, so please ensure students arrive on time for attendance at their following drop off locations:
Hodgkin - Salamanca Square
Ransome - Hodgkin Hall
Unwin - Bell Street
Mather - Domain Soccer Fields
Students will be dismissed from the same locations at 2.55pm. Further details were sent to families via Operoo. A reminder that if your child is unwell or cannot participate on the day, parents must notify the High School office as soon as possible.
Year 7 Immunisations Tuesday 20 October
Year 7 students who have returned the forms will receive the first dose of the HPV(Gardasil) vaccination and the dTpa (Boostrix) vaccination and Year 10 students who have returned the forms will receive the Meningococcal ACWY (Nimenrix) vaccination. The vaccinations will occur in periods 1 - 4.
Please advise the High School Office if students have received the vaccination during the COVID-19 school closures so that the student can be removed from the Class List.

Rivulet Walk | Year 7 Connections Day
Backhouse and Fry: Wednesday 28 October
Mott and Oats: Thursday 29 October
Penn and Walker: Friday 30 October
Students will be participating in a day-long walk along the Hobart Rivulet. The day will have an environmental science focus. Students will conduct environmental surveys at four to five sites along the Hobart Rivulet. Students should arrive at school at the usual time and will be bussed to Strickland Falls. Students will be bussed back to school after pick-up from Molle Street at the end of the day for usual dismissal times.
On the day, students should wear sports uniform including a hat and a waterproof coat. Students should also bring any personal medications and sunscreen. A change of shoes or gumboots is also required. Students will need recess snacks, lunch and a drink. As this trip is a full day in the field, please ensure that students have packed plenty to eat and drink. A clipboard and pencil will also be required.
Year 8 Outdoor Education - Exploring Environments
Next week Year 8 will be embarking on their three-day Outdoor Education Program from Monday 19 to Wednesday 21 October. Students will be exploring the Derwent and Weld Rivers, Alum Cliffs, kunanyi, Murrayfield on Bruny, the Peninsula and Sand River. Students should have read over their information letter (available via the Outdoor Education website) to make sure they have the appropriate equipment for each day. Students need to arrive to begin at 8am at Bell Street. The program will finish by 4pm and all students are required to leave the facility at this time. The Outdoor Education team is really excited to be getting out and exploring our amazing backyard with the Year 8s.
Music Award Applications for 2020 - Updated Application Process
Given the disrupted music rehearsal program this year, the Music Staff have adjusted the criteria for applying for Music Awards. Information about the application process, including a link to the application form, may be found here.
We are now seeking application forms from High School students, which are due Wednesday 21 October.

We are delighted to release the recordings from this year’s Amnesty Battle of the Talent. To view the recordings and cast a vote, please use this form. Note that votes can only be cast by Friends’ School students. Adjudication will be announced shortly after Friday 30 October.
Old Scholars Memorial Grant for Year 11 Tuition
A reminder that applications for the Old Scholar Memorial Grant close on 6 November at 4pm. There is a grant towards Clemes fees in Term One and current Year 10 Friends' students with any old scholar connection - parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts - are encouraged to apply.
