Year 6 STEM (the Playing Card Challenges)
Rather than use the written word to show what our Year 6 and Year 7 / 8 STEM program have been doing let's share in video format.
2021 is going to be an exciting year for Performing Arts with the introduction to Singinglinks to all our Year P-2 students across Northern Bay. During 2020 Peacock Prep-2's have participated in the program, and we are looking forward to sharing this with the rest of the college.
SINGINGLINKS
SingingLinks is a classroom singing program coming to all F-2 classrooms at Northern Bay College in 2021. SingingLinks is designed to grow young brains through a research-based approach that includes singing and moving to music for 10 minutes every day. Classroom teachers will be supported to deliver the program by specialist facilitators from Bluebird Foundation. For a glimpse into the program, watch this video and try this echo song at home.
This simple example from the remote delivery model shows some of the structures of learning achievable through song. The presenter is Bron Lawson of the Bluebird Foundation.
Hi Everyone
SEED operates across the college differently for different year levels. In Years 9 and 10 it is an elective to support potential excellence but also offer pathway options for students with sport and physical activities as their passion. All SEED programs are highlighted by having high quality coaches working alongside college staff. SEED now extends to Year 11 in a pathway for more formal qualifications.
At Year 7 and 8 SEED is a program for every student across the college. Through the program we hope to give every student, regardless of proven skills and past history with fitness, the opportunity to find their confidence, perhaps new or improved skills and most certainly the widest possible choice of physical exercise or team participation that could be an enjoyable pastime, hobby or genuine pathway.
This short combination of pictures in a video format shows some of the options we have been offering this term.
Since our return to onsite learning Year 6 students have been undertaking a series of fitness testing activities. They are fun and engaging, and all results are celebrated.
The assessments include
The feedback and commitment from the students has been very positive for Mr Hauenstein who has been recording all of the outcomes.
These assessments are part of the transition program for Year 7 and 8 SEED where there is the focus on supporting general student fitness and developing skills in one or many more sports. With the results of the assessment our SEED team can best devise a great program for all students to set goals and our simply enjoy.
The Broad Jump photos might bring back memories. Distance is secondary to "having a go"
I have now completed talking to all upcoming Year 9 students about a new and exciting elective called IMPACT.
IMPACT, as mentioned in our past newsletter, is our second pillar of excellence (with SEED the first pillar) to be established at Northern Bay College.
My talks have been part of the Year 9 Transition Program and students' subject selection. For students electing IMPACT we hope to explore and provide pathways for them given their passion in at least one of the Arts. I am very excited to start planning with the 2021 students to develop this new and exciting program.
Key to the success of this elective will be catering the content to meet each student's needs and goals. They will be an important decision maker in setting the directions which the program content takes and how best to merge the curriculum with each specific passions.
Impact stands for (Inspiring Musicians, Performers, Artists to Create Together) This elective runs over the year.
Sadly, we have had to postpone the starting of the Extended School Day for 2020, due to the continued rules around Covid- 19. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again in 2021, in the new and always engaging Extended School Day program.
