CLASS OF 2020
On 5 February these young adults had the opportunity to interact with former Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove. His address to Year 12 was full of inspiring words about opportunities, making the most of the year and urging them to have optimism for the future.
Celebration Day is today for our Year 12 students. An important rite of passage moment, it does come with some nervousness each year for staff. As expected though the NBC Year 12 cohort were wonderfully respectful whilst also having some fun. Leadership staff worked with the School Captains to ensure a respectful and fun day was enjoyed by all and the students were terrific in meeting their end of the bargain with some decorations of the school to commemorate the occasion. We wish all our graduating class well as they finalise their work requirements and in the case of VCE students undertaking examinations and VCAL students presenting their final portfolios
This 5 minute video of their last day of formal education shows how proud we are of them and how caring they are of each other.
As a first step in the consultation process - further deep level opportunities will follow - It was great this week to have Year 9 and 10 student representatives take part in some discussions around the opportunity that the Goldsworthy building program presents. This important part of the initial planning process allows all stakeholders to provide feedback on how the college and DET can use this opportunity to leverage off what is unique about our school and help future-proof our facilities.
School Photos Years Prep - 8
It was good to have the opportunity to have school photographers come on site to capture memories for our students and families. The photos are being proofed and once approved should be available in the not too distant future.
It is a great bonus for our students to have returned to the GITTC for their specialist studies. Although we are still limited in having students from campuses mix with each other there is some terrific creativity taking place.
Thank you to the families who took the time to complete our survey regarding three way conferences in the P-8 Campuses. Your feedback was predominantly positive about the experience and it was good to have some recommendations for the future.
Preparatory work for the implementation of our 1:1 learning environment continues to build momentum. We are very excitedly working on processes and educational programs that will utilise the new learning devices all students from Year 3-12 will have access to next year. At no cost to parents students in year 3-10 will be provided a Chromebook to support their classroom and home based learning. These devices will be given to all students at the book collection at the beginning of next year where they will then become the responsibility of each students to bring to school fully charged each day.
More information regarding the acceptable use of these devices will be communicated with families through the remainder of this year. This is an exciting time for our students and our learning program and we really look forward to making the most of our leap into a 1:1 learning environment.
The preference is still for students to use the Lunch order system to order lunch orders on a daily basis. In addition P-8 Canteens can serve via their outside window to students on a daily basis at recess and lunch times.
At the Wexford Campus the Canteen will stock some items for sale at a table outside to the entrance of the canteen to prevent students from mixing on mass indoors. Students lining up should be reminded by yard duty teachers to keep distance as much as possible.
May I urge all families to return all loaned devices from our Prep to year 2 students. iPads that were borrowed during remote learning need to be returned next Thursday, 19 November or Friday 20 November to the College Admin hub, accessible from Indiana Avenue.
Drop off times are 9am until 11am and from 3pm until 5pm. It is important that we get these devices back so they can be returned to learning communities for our students to use again. It is very difficult to run our programs when we are missing so many devices
Remembrance Day
I would like to acknowledge the importance of Remembrance Day in our community. Across the campuses there was the minute silence and I thank all for their adherence.
Normally held in July, NAIDOC Week was postponed this year. It is always a major week of activity at Northern Bay with so many of our students identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. This year was lower key but still raised in learning communities.
College 7-9 Art Design Technology Showcase.
I have just had a good look at the work done by our secondary students. High quality work and presentation. Thank you to students and staff for this showcase!
