BOOK FAIR OCTOBER 2020 - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

We are so excited to be able to hold our October Book Fair, having had to cancel the one earlier in the year due to lockdown. However, due to current restrictions, our Book Fair will have to look a little different at St Xavier’s this time round. Today your child will bring home a one page Book Fair Invitation from Scholastic. The Book Fair will run from Friday 16th October (Week 1) through until Wednesday 21st October (Week 2). Unfortunately parents and caregivers will be unable to attend the Book Fair, so the purpose of this letter is to explain how this will work and how purchases can still be made.

Students will attend the Book Fair with their teachers and will be given the opportunity to write a “wish list” (younger students will receive help with this). Wish lists (as seen in the image below) will then be sent home to see if you would like to purchase any items. I understand that you may not want to purchase all of the items that your child has listed so you might like to highlight or tick those items that you would like to buy.

Payments can be made in a number of ways. You may like to simply send cash in with your children. You can send a specific amount of cash if you know exactly what you would like them to purchase. Alternatively you might like to send them with a lump sum and I will be able to help them with their purchasing decisions. The other option is to pay online at www.scholastic.com.au/payment . You will be given an 8 digit receipt number that you will need to write on the back of the wish list, along with your details. Your child will then bring this to school and come to the Book Fair to receive their books.

I know this procedure is different and not ideal, however I really wanted to give the students the opportunity to attend the Book Fair and I am hoping that we can manage this in the best way possible. If you have any questions or are confused about anything, please don’t hesitate to contact me at school on (02) 67421136, or alternatively send me an email aswain@arm.catholic.edu.au

Thank you so much for supporting this important event!

All purchases that are made benefit the school.

BOOK WEEK 2020 - CURIOUS CREATURES, WILD MINDS- Dress up Day Monday 19 October

Each year across Australia, The Children’s Book Council brings children and books together celebrating Children’s Book Week. This provides us with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Australian Children’s Literature.

This year Book Week will be celebrated from the 19th - 23rd October (Week 2, Term 4), the theme being “Curious Creatures, Wild Minds”.

Due to current Covid19 restrictions, Book Week will look a little different at St Xavier’s this year. The first thing to note is that Book Week has been moved from earlier in the year to this new date, meaning that it will now overlap with our October Book Fair! So much fun all in the one week! The second thing to note is that current restrictions mean that no parents or caregivers are allowed on school grounds - so these events will both run just for students. A separate note regarding the specific details of Book Fair will be sent out to you shortly.

Our Book Week celebrations will involve a dress up day on Monday 19th October (Week 2, Term 4). Children may choose to dress up as their favourite book character on this day, and we will hold a special Book Week Parade and activities. Children will get an opportunity to tell their peers about their specific character and why they chose to dress as them!

Thank you for your support of this celebration. We look forward to seeing our playground full of interesting and wonderful book characters! It is always exciting to have a chance to celebrate our amazing Australian Children’s Literature.
