Principals Message

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome back to St Xavier’s for the final term of this interesting, somewhat crazy, year. I think we are very fortunate to live where we live. Life for most of us has not changed much. For some though, job loss and financial difficulty are very real. On top of the drought, which is not finished, life for some of our families has been extra challenging.

This is certainly a time to work together, support each other and be honest about how we are going. If you are struggling with anything that may impact on your children please come and chat to me. I’m a good listener and I have tissues!

The building project is going ahead in leaps and bounds. It continues to excite me every time I visit the site. We are so lucky to have such a state of the art building underway. Currently we are choosing furniture for the Library areas and the large shared space that all rooms open onto.

My dream of having an interactive garden where children can plant, watch things grow, relax and reflect is going to become a reality. The Henry Street side of the school was not part of the project but since we were able to include the fantastic verandah that runs along this side the area had to be fenced. I am as excited about the garden area as I am about the new rooms.

Our Fun Day held on the last day of term was an outstanding display of teamwork and community. The staff created some fun, challenging activities to suit all skill levels. Despite the wind the atmosphere was wonderful. I wish you could have seen some of the events, our children were such good sports. I am not sure if the highlight was all of Year 6 chasing Mr Thurbon with a tub of water or Miss Clift dunking her whole head in the tub to retrieve an apple (an old Pony Camp trick).

If you would like an opportunity (once COVID Restrictions are lifted) to sit in on a lesson or visit our classrooms just give the office a call. I am more than happy to show any parents what happens in our classrooms. It would not be a chore and the benefit of seeing things in action would be positive.

Thanks for your support and encouragement  in all that we do. Thank you also to the people who ask questions and offer opinions and challenge us. We are all here to do the best job possible with your children, to help them grow and mature and make a year’s worth of learning happen every year.

Kind regards,

Jen
