Principal Team Editorial

In this editorial I would like to pay tribute to our resilient and remarkable Year 12s.

This year has been like no other, a global pandemic that has transformed our lives and the lives of our families and friends. I’m sure when the 2019 Year 11s, imagined all of the future highlights of 2020, none could possibly have foreseen what was to come. Remote learning is now part of our lexicon but in January that term would have meant nothing to students, teachers and parents. The changes and pivots sprung up quickly and we adjusted the best we could under the circumstances. Classes and SACs at home, no formal, theme days and celebrations at school but they didn’t give up. Stuck at home without contact with their teachers and friends but they didn’t give in. Exams postponed, final results delayed, no end of year valedictory but they did not despair.

It would have been easy for our Year 12 VCE and VCAL students to throw in the towel and say that it was not fair and all too hard, but they didn’t and today (Friday) the smiles on their faces are a mile wide, celebrating the end of 13 years  of school with their teachers and friends. We are so lucky that the virus in now under control, restrictions are lifted and students are back at school, because whilst we could reflect on all that has been missed, at least we had today. Today the Year 12s finally got what they deserved, what all student deserve when then finish school, acknowledgement and celebration of everything they have achieved. To be at the end, to have made it this far, this year, is a truly remarkable achievement. One that is unlikely to be surpassed throughout our endless history. And whilst today is not the last page, and there is a whole lot of work for our VCE students to still be done, I know that they will tackle the exam challenge head on with grit and gusto, just like they have attacked the last 6 months. To the class of 2020, on behalf of students, teachers and parents, simply put, thank you and well done….
