The patch is taking shape!

VCE Year 11 Ag Hort students have thinned their vegetable crops after some school holiday growth. The centre row of Biofumigant mix in each bed is bouncing away and the Multi Species Winter Cover Crop is also thriving. The students carefully thinned their lettuces, coriander and spinach crops, saving the seedlings for the Semester 2 Year 9 Sense of Humus students.

The Year 9s worked extremely efficiently, demonstrating fantastic team work to fill one of the raised garden beds with soil and plant out the seedlings in about 40 minutes. Well done!

A lot of different groups of people are working on the Patch to get it to take shape. Over the holidays the Facilities Team re-positioned the chook house, put together 4 raised garden beds and completed some fencing around the site.

Ben Kelly’s VET Building and Construction students are currently building compost bins and the poultry run and a couple more projects.

Two VCE Product Design students are designing seating and a table for outdoor learning and seed preparation, and the Environment Committee is preparing to start filling the compost bins as soon as they are completed.

One of the VCAL Personal Development classes will soon begin preparing holes for our orchard.

The Patch is already taking shape as a place where different groups from a variety of year levels and learning areas can work together for a common goal. ..
