Sandhurst Girls Soccer

The Sandhurst Soccer tournament was a fun day, and all the girls tried their very hardest. Even though we didn’t have a team a few days before the tournament, many girls stepped up to the challenge with little experience playing soccer. The day wasn’t as successful as we had hoped, but it was still an exciting and enjoyable day.

We faced Catherine McAuley College (CMC) first up - who ended up winning the competition. It was a tough game with the ball being in our defence for most of the game. We lost 4-0 to CMC, the girls played well, but CMC was an experienced and strong team who simply outplayed us. The girls kept their spirits up, ready to win the next games. Later on, we faced Victory Christian College (VCC) for a very close match, Isabella Bowles scored a fantastic goal to place our team in the lead. Imogen Stewart scored an amazing goal, but VCC ultimately came back to score two goals. Lucy O’Shea, as goalie made many great saves during the game however, VCC shot goals that were impossible to save. The game ended up being 2-2.

After a break, we got off to a strong start against Weeroona College when Isabella Bowles scored another great goal. Throughout the whole day, Ellianna Langan was incredible in defence by leading the girls to keep us strong during the games. Sadly, Weeroona College scored three goals very quickly. The score would have been 4-1 if not for Lucy who made an amazing penalty save by diving to her right side. The game ended up being 3-1, with Weeroona defeating us due to their great players and setups.

Girton did a fantastic job throughout the day, especially with some inexperienced soccer players. They all tried their hardest and it was a great day. The team should all congratulate themselves for putting everything they had into the matches.

Thank you to Mrs O’Shea for giving up her day and braving the cold, wet weather to accompany the team.
