Loddon Mallee Regional Girls Soccer Final

On a chilly Monday morning, the Year 9 and 10s girls soccer team arrived at Epsom for soccer regionals, our first game was against Swan Hill, we ended up winning 7-0. It was the perfect start to the day. Goal scorers were Claire, Bronte, Anna with a double, Freya with a double and Mia. Well done girls!

Our second game was against SMOTA (Saint Mary Of The Angels), they travelled far from Nathalia to come to this tournament so we had to be prepared. We started off strong, Claire scoring two goals in the first half, then we had our striker Freya score. At halftime we had a pep talk from our coach and went back out there. Anna finished the game off with two more goals making the result 5-0.

It was time to play against our hardest opponent, Merbein. We had to win to get through to State finals, but since we had already scored 12 goals our goal difference was higher than theirs, although they still had one game to play against SMOTA after us so we were quite stressedzzz1

The game started well, with both teams fighting to win. Claire ran hard down the wing, crossing into Bronte where she scored! 1-0. Unfortunately, Merbein fired right back and scored, but the girls wouldn’t give up. Freya came running down the middle of the pitch and rifled it into the top corner. The score was 2-1 going into halftime and we were feeling confident. That didn’t last long, as soon as the half-started Merbein scored.

The game ended 2-2 and Merbein had to play their next game and win 9-0 to get through to States.

Their game ended 2-0 so that means we are onto states, so we all ran up to SMOTA and celebrated. Very successful day from the girls and you all should be proud of yourself!

Thank you to Ms O’Shea for coach and accompanying the team.
