Rostrum Public Speaking
I had the absolute pleasure of listening to 9 fantastic speeches as part of the Rostrum Public Speaking competition last week. We were informed of many topics, some of which included ‘being organised,’ ‘my least favourite thing’, ‘every little thing counts’, ‘drones’ and ‘teamwork’. Mrs Eustace, as the adjudicator, had an exceedingly difficult decision to make as all of the students spoke with confidence and poise. Congratulations to all of the students who took part. Speaking in public can be a daunting undertaking for most children, not to mention quite a few adults, and all involved spoke fantastically.
I would like to wish Bonnie Bromham the best of luck in the next round of the Rostrum public speaking competition.
This round will be held at Yass Soldiers Club on 27 June 2022.
Colour Run
On Thursday afternoon we were finally able to host our Year 12 fundraiser – the Colour Run. Despite the cool weather and overcast skies, all students and staff involved had a wonderful time jogging the perimeter of the school whilst being pelted with coloured powder. I know personally that I got a little too excited and used all of my pink colouring within the first couple of laps. I would like to apologise for my overzealous ‘powdering’ as I may have inadvertently gotten it in hair, eyes, ears, and noses. In my defence, the students kept asking for it in their hair?!
You will be happy to know that my actions were repaid in full by several Year 12 students and a tall Year 9 boy (who shall remain nameless). They took great delight in covering me in orange powder. I am still blowing orange colouring from my nose.
Thank you to Year 12 and their year advisor Ms Claire Johnson for organising the event. Hopefully, we can make it an annual fixture in our calendar.
Athletics Carnival
As I write this article it is the night before the Athletics Carnival. We decided to push ahead despite the wet conditions as we did not have the time to postpone for a 4th time. However, we were forced to make some last-minute changes to event locations to ensure participating students remained as safe as possible. I am sure it is going to be another successful carnival at Boorowa Central and I look forward to watching the students leap ever higher at the High Jump.
Thank you to the carnival organisers, staff, and parents for working together to ensure our students have a memorable carnival.
Year 7 Transition Day 1 – Tuesday 21 June
Looking ahead, I would like to remind parents and students of Year 6 that Day 1 of the Year 7 2022 Transition program is on next Tuesday 21 June. Students are asked to attend school at normal time and take themselves directly to the Stage 4 quadrant. They are to wear full school uniform and have their pencil case and lunch. They can also order from the canteen.
Students will enjoy their day in high school, participating in a variety of orientation activities and ‘taster’ lessons. I look forward to enjoying this program with them as we progress throughout the year.
New Teachers
Mrs Courtney Blank will be joining us in Term 3, teaching mathematics in secondary. She has been permanently appointed to the school in this position. She will be completing her final practicum experience as part of her University degree in this time and will be supported by Mrs Julie Poplin, who has agreed to mentor through this time.
Ms Jess Bromfield is also joining us in secondary from Term 3. She will be teaching PDHPE in secondary predominantly. She was the successful applicant through and Expression of Interest process and will continue in this position until the end of the year. She joins us from Mulwaree High School in Goulburn where she has taught PDHPE for the past 6 years.
I am excited to welcome these new staff members to our school and am confident that both will be very successful.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Luke Rimmer for filling these roles previously. Mr Rimmer has chosen to return to casual teaching.
Education Week
And finally, I would like to draw your attention to Boorowa Central School’s plans for Education Week next term. In Week 2 of Term 3, the school will be hosting a variety of competitions and challenges throughout the week as well as NAIDOC day and the Book Fair. Each day, we will have activities that parents are invited to attend at the school and join in the fun. More information will be released next week to ensure as many of our families can join us for one or more activity throughout the week.
