R U OK ? Fundraiser

8th September 2022

First of all, I want to acknowledge and praise the hard work that has been put in by our Student Leadership team over the past few weeks in organising this fundraising event – particularly our Year 11 Student Leaders (Esdras, Brodie H, Mirabi, Hayden M & Ollie N) who really took the lead on this event during what has been a busy period for our School Captains. And again, I want to acknowledge Esdras Assimadi’s MAMMOTH effort in sourcing out donations for all of the sausage sizzle resources – he showed fantastic leadership during this event.

Despite the many challenges these students were faced with in running this fundraiser, including the Year 7 students being absent from school on an excursion, our VCAL students being off campus for the day, parent teacher interviews preventing some last minute advertisement of the day, the students, as per usual, came together and ran what was a very successful day in raising money for the RU OK? Suicide Prevention Charity

In total, they managed to raise $223 to donate directly to the charity.

Thank you also toSaskia for sharing such a wide range of RU OK Day activities for our Home Groups to participate in. I know for myself personally as a HG teacher, it felt really incredible to run such a meaningful lesson and watch as my own Home Group engaged in the activity I chose in such a safe and respectful way.

Upon reflection of these happy snaps, the words that spring to mind most for me are inclusivity and dedication. As you’ll see for yourselves in the images, some of the students who are getting their hands dirty and volunteering on the BBQ are not a part of our official Student Leadership team for 2022, and it made me beam with absolute pride to see that our ‘official’ student leaders for 2022 can recognise and facilitate opportunities for all students to be involved, to show leadership and take some ownership and pride in being part of and contributing to such an important day. Overall, it was really fantastic to see how well our Woodmans Hill students work together and how organised and efficient they were in ensuring the fundraiser ran smoothly.
