Learning and Teaching

Every year the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) aims to highlight the importance of reading through Book Week.  Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public libraries create colourful displays, develop activities, run competitions and tell stories relating to a chosen theme.

This year's theme is Dreaming with Eyes Open and Book Week runs from August 20 - 26.

Dreaming with Eyes Open is a theme that relates to a number of things, including stepping into your own story and thinking about your dreams and ambitions. This theme also invokes thoughts of ancient times, and of listening to Country as the first storyteller.

During Book Week, our students will be exploring some of the books that have been nominated for an award this year, as part of their learning in English.  Categories for awards include Picture Book of the Year, Book of the Year : Younger Readers, Book of the Year : Early Childhood and a New Illustrator Award.

As part of our Book Week celebrations, students are invited to dress as their favourite book character on Thursday, August 25. There are thousands of possibilities for costumes, ranging from the simple to the more complex, and we can't wait to see what students come up with.  A big thanks to families for their support of this event.

We are finalising the details of our Book Week Parade and this will be communicated early next week.  We are planning to make this an activity with buddy classes so students of all ages can enjoy celebrating books together.
