FROM THE PRINCIPAL

"Many Wolves .... One Pack"

Term 3 - Week 2

An enormous thank you to all members of our school community who were able to join us last Friday, to celebrate and thank our grandparents or that special someone who exemplifies a grandparent whilst acknowledging the feasts of Joachim and Anne (Jesus' grandparents).

For the children of St Nicholas, Grandparents Day is arguably the most anticipated and most joyous celebration of the year.

It is fitting that in 2022, Grandparents Day fell in the week of our NAIDOC celebrations. It is fitting because one of many things we can learn from our indigenous culture, is the enormous respect for which elders are held. In a throw away society, where even people are provided with use by dates, the learnings and experiences of our elders are rarely sought, and at times are disgracefully even dismissed.

We have a lot to learn from our Indigenous culture and our indigenous culture has a lot to be proud of. The respect for which they hold their elders, must be used as a benchmark by the entire world and modern day society.

To all grandparents, thank you for the role you play in the lives of our children and for the learnings and experiences. Thank you for the joy you bring to our children. Thank you for caring!

Thank you to Kate Slattery and to the PT&F for organising and serving morning tea.

I trust you enjoyed a beautiful day at St Nicholas and Friday’s events can be seen as just one small way of saying thank you.

Have a wonderful week.

John Clery
