Term 3 Week 4 2022 - Friday the 5th of August
What have we been up to?
August has arrived and with it some warmer weather. We’ve also well and truly got into the swing of Term 3 with students enjoying all the different activities that the 1/2 teachers have planned. In Reading, students have been using high quality picture story books to explore many aspects of reading. Through the texts students have built their comprehension strategies, developed their knowledge of language features and made connections between themselves, their world and the text.
These texts have also supported and inspired students in their writing of different narratives. Students have focussed on creating a setting, interesting characters and a meaningful problem and solution.
Over the last 2 weeks we have been investigating Multiplication and representing those equations in a range of different ways. Students have used arrays and repeated addition to show how multiplication equations are made up of equal sized groups and the first number tells the learner how many groups and the second number tells the learner how many are in that group.
In Inquiry and Science, students have enjoyed fun-filled lessons where students have been investigating how to make balanced choices and what happens when different substances are mixed together.
Here are some photo highlights from the fortnight that was!
1/2 A - We visited the Preps to congratulate them on 100 Days of Learning! We are very proud of each and every one of them!
1/2 C - Together is better when learning Maths
What is coming up?
Reading & Writing
In Reading over the next two weeks students will continue developing their understanding of literal and inferential questioning and build their comprehension skills by making connection to texts. There will also be a focus on language features and how different word types work together to build interesting sentences. Students will use their writing sessions over the next two weeks to develop their writing skills by using descriptive language to add detail in their writing.
Maths
This fortnight in maths students will be investigating location. They will be working towards following and giving instructions to different locations and exploring how different types of language can change the direction something or someone is travelling. Students will also begin looking at area and using informal units of measurement to find out how much a space can hold.
Inquiry & Science
Over the coming week students will be further investigating what happens when different substances are mixed together. They will be following the scientific process by making a hypothesis, following a procedure and writing about their findings. They will also be looking at the effect of sugar on the body and investigating how common foods can sometimes contain an unexpected amount of sugar.
