Dear Families,
Let us Pray….
As our children prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation
Loving God help us to teach our children
that you love us totally and unconditionally.
Help us to encourage our children to grow in love and to learn how to say sorry,
knowing that you always forgive.
Give us the courage to pray with our children and to share our faith with them as we journey together.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
"Be prepared" Year C Sunday 7 August
Preparing to hear God's word
If Jesus was to come into your house today, what would you say?
How would you be ready to welcome him?
The Gospel Story
There is a sense of urgency portrayed in today's gospel passage.
Jesus tells the disciples to 'Be ready' and 'Keep your lamps burning'.
The story tells of servants waiting for and being ready for their master's return from a wedding banquet, but then the master serves the servants which is a complete reversal of roles.
This is an image of the 'hospitality of God'.
The message is that we should be welcoming to others as we get ready for Jesus.
The Gospel
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 12:35-40
Be prepared.
Jesus said to his disciples:
"Be ready and keep your lamps burning just like those servants who wait up
for their master to return from a wedding feast.
As soon as he comes and knocks, they open the door for him.
"Servants are fortunate if their master finds them awake and ready when he comes!
I promise you that he will get ready and have his servants sit down so he can serve them.
Those servants are really fortunate if their master finds them ready, even though he comes late at night or early in the morning.
"You would surely not let a thief break into your home, if you knew when the thief was coming.
So always be ready!
You don't know when the Son of Man will come."
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Reflecting on the Gospel - discussion
Jesus tells us to watch out and be ready. We need to constantly think about our relationships with others and be sure to treat other people with friendliness and welcome. Building up God’s kingdom in this way means we will be ready for Jesus. How can we be welcoming, friendly or helpful to people this week?

Grandparents Mass is this FRIDAY 5th August!
Do you know who Jesus' Grandparents were? Like many of our Grandparents they would have looked after him, spoilt him and taught him daily routines. Like our Grandparents today, St Anne and St Joachim, are role models for us all.
"In old age they will still bear fruit" (Psalm 92:15)
We celebrated their feast day on July 26 and on Friday.
Last year Pope John Paul proclaimed the fourth Sunday in July as a day of celebration in honour of all Grandparents and the elderly.
“The World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly is an opportunity to proclaim once more, with joy, that the Church wants to celebrate together with all those whom the Lord – in the words of the Bible – has “filled with days”. Let us celebrate it together! I ask you to make this Day known in your parishes and communities; to seek out those elderly persons who feel most alone, at home or in residences where they live. Let us make sure that no one feels alone on this day. Expecting a visit can transform those days when we think we have nothing to look forward to; from an initial encounter, a new friendship can emerge. Visiting the elderly who live alone is a work of mercy in our time!”

So, in honour of our Grandparents, special friends and Parents we invite YOU to our Grandparents Mass on Friday August 5th, 2022, at 9:15 in our Parish Church. This will be followed by open classrooms for Grandparents to visit. A morning tea will be served for adults only commencing at 11:00 a.m in St Mary Hall, our parish hall across the road.
Don’t miss the CELEBRATION!
Holy Day of Obligation - the Feast of the Assumption
August 15th
Sacred Heart Church 9.15am
This holy day marks the occasion of the Virgin Mary’s bodily ascent to heaven at the end of her life. It is the principal feast of the Blessed Virgin, the mother of Jesus Christ.
The devoted light candles, attend Mass, and say prayers for peace all over the world.
“Mary, give me your Heart: so beautiful, so pure, so immaculate; your Heart so full of love and humility that I may be able to receive Jesus in the Bread of Life and love Him as you love Him and serve Him in the distressing guise of the poor.”
~ Saint Mother Teresa
Mary reminds us and teaches us that we should resemble Christ in everything that we do.
Father John will be celebration Mass at 9.15am in the Sacred Heart Church to celebrate this feast day. All children and staff will be attending this Parish led Mass.
Please join us if you can.
Prayer for this week
Keep warm and stay well!
GOD BLESS.
