Principal's Report

Pursuit of Excellence

Our school motto Ad Lucem Crescimus “Growing towards the light” connects strongly to the school value of Pursuit of Excellence.  At last week’s whole school assembly, we celebrated the achievements and efforts of our students who reached their personal best in a range of areas: academic, science, STEM, music, sport, and the arts.

We were very pleased to formally congratulate the 2021 School Dux, Ms. Talia Langton, and also welcomed her family.

Talia achieved an ATAR of 99.25, and what was significant about Talia and her peers, is that they completed their two years of VCE, entirely

throughout the very challenging COVID period. Her time at Blackburn High School was characterised by her incredible effort, commitment, making lifelong friends, as well as taking up the many opportunities that the school offered. Talia is really enjoying her current studies in scientific research at Monash University.

National Robotics Competition

We celebrated the inaugural Robotics Team who competed and won an award at the recent National Robotics competition held at Blackburn High School.

Achievements

The sports captains, Grace Phillips and Rebecca Hedley recognised outstanding team and individual student achievement in cross country, interschool sports and diving. The performing arts captain, Kendal Gaudion acknowledged Ben Chen, who has been selected to be part of a new ABC TV series. The clarinet ensemble was recognised by the music captains David Goddard and Laura Vosinthawong, for their exceptional musical performance at the North East Victorian Regional concert.

Students were commended for their distinctions in the Big Science Competition.

Just last week our sporting students continued to demonstrate their commitment to excellence at the Regional Athletics competition and our school was awarded first prize on the day as a result. Many of these students will continue on to the State level competition later in the year.

Congratulations to all of our students whose achievements are not accidental, but well deserved through their commitment, perseverance, strong work ethic and their endeavour to strive to do their personal best.
