Term 3 was our chance to show the Eastern Metro Region what our students have to offer. The huge successes of winning the Whitehorse division competitions in term 1 and 2 meant the students were given the opportunity to face their next challenge. The competitions were tough, coming up against the best of the best from the other Eastern Metro Divisions. Blackburn sent out AFL and Netball teams from all year levels, the most success coming from our Junior Boys. The boys were invited to represent the school at State level and will be competing for the state title in AFL and Netball later this term.
This term marks a close for the Senior and Intermediate Whitehorse Competitions, we wish the remaining teams the best of luck at the EMR competitions in Term 4.
In all competitions, the students demonstrated great leadership and respect for the umpires, coaches and opposing schools. Thank you to all student players, coaches and volunteers.
Good luck to the Year 7 and 8 students who have their Basketball, Table Tennis and Hockey competitions in the coming weeks. Have fun and do our school proud.
Junior Boys Netball Team Through to State Final
Our Junior boys netball team who qualified in first place at the Whitehorse division competition, headed out to Waverley on 25th July for the EMR Finals. In their first game, they came up against Balwyn and came away with a comfortable win. Their second game was against a tougher Vermont team and although they had a bit of a slow start, it was a tight tussle and the game ended up drawn. The boys had a bye in the last round, so waited patiently to find out who they would play in the Semi-Final, which was Wantirna. Again, the lead changed with this game early on, but our boys persisted and made it through to the Grand Final. This was to be played against Vermont, with whom they had drawn earlier. However, by this stage of the competition, our boys were playing really well together and had their best game of the day and cruised to a 15-24 win. The boys will now play in the State Final on 29th August.

Blackburn Dominates at Whitehorse Division Athletics
On Tuesday we had approximately 140 of our students head out to Doncaster Athletics track for the Whitehorse Division Athletics Carnival. It was a beautiful day, the sun was out and our students were full of enthusiasm. Whether our students were in only one event or 6 events, they all represented Blackburn High with pride. We had some fabulous individual and team results.

3rd Koonung Sec - 1310 Points
4th Box Hill High - 673 Points
5th Box Hill Sen SC - 278 Points
Therefore a massive 700 point win to Blackburn!!

6 out of the 12 Age Champions were Blackburn students (Charlie Wilson 13 Yrs Boys, Cheryl Chen 14 Yrs Girls, James Lahom 14 Yrs Boys, Liam McLennan 17 Yrs Boys, Rebecca Hedley 20 Yrs Girls and Lachlan Curtis 20 Yrs Boys)
3 Blackburn students broke records - Charlie Wilson (13 Years boys 800m and 13 Years boys 400m), Thomas Linnett (13 Years boys 1500m) and Babette Nathan (13 Years girls Discus)
Approximately 60 students have qualified for the Eastern Regional Finals which will take place on 10th October.
A wonderful effort from all of the students and best of luck to those who will now progress to the Eastern Regional Finals

EMR Senior Boys Netball
Our Senior boys Netball team who had finished Whitehorse Division Champions played in the EMR Finals out at Waverley. Although they could not come away with a win for the day, the boys came very close and played with great team spirit.

EMR Senior Girls Netball
Our Senior Girls Netball team who finished Whitehorse Division Champions played in the EMR Finals out at Waverley. The girls played well together and after defeating Vermont in the preliminary rounds, qualified for the semi-finals. Here, they came up against Rowville and although they fought until the bitter end, they could not overcome their opponent. A fantastic effort girls against some really talented teams. Thanks to Mr. A for coming along to cheer and score!

Year 9/10 Intermediate Boys EMR AFL
On Tuesday, 19th July 24 Year 9/10 boys took the field at East Burwood Reserve in the EMR AFL Championship.
Round 1: BHS 5 goals, 2 behinds, 32 points defeated Camberwell HS 1 goals, 2 behinds, 8 points
Goal kickers: Daniel Bellingham 2, Zach Wellman 1, Levi Prismall 1, Aiden Patterson 1
Round 2: BHS 4 goals, 5 behinds, 29 points were defeated by Vermont SC 7 goals, 3 behinds, 45 points
Goal kickers: Aiden Patterson 2, Gabe Roso 1, Oscar Te Rure 1
Round 3: BHS 6 goals, 2 behinds, 38 points drew with Lilydale HS 6 goals, 2 behinds, 38 points.
