Positive Behaviour, Maths, Spelling & Brain Breaks

To encourage an atmosphere of positive behaviour and good choices in the JLC classroom, students have many opportunities to earn rewards and praise through verbal reinforcement, stickers, Dojo Points and the Goodie Box.

In Maths, the students are learning about Location and Transformation.  In describing the position of an object, they have been using words such as left, right, top, middle and bottom when using grids and in everyday directional language. They have been following and giving directions to reach a determined destination.  They particularly enjoyed colouring the path in the haunted house without bumping into anything scary.   In the area of transformation the students are becoming familiar with the terms slide, flip and turn when describing the movement of the transformed shape.  They have been using 2D shapes in the classroom and at home to show these movements.

As you may be aware we have a whole school approach to our spelling program, where we use the Soundwaves program throughout the school.  The students all engage in a Pre-test on Mondays and a Post-test on Fridays.  In the Junior Learning Community we have the senior students who come into our classroom to conduct the post- test with the onsite students.  The students learning remotely at home are supported by their parents/carers.

JLC really enjoy having their peers come in and assist with the testing.  This method saves a lot of class learning time and allows for the interaction of the younger students with their peers.

As we are all plunged into remote learning again, we want to acknowledge all the help and support that we are getting from our amazing parents who are trying to juggle work commitments and assist their children with their studies. Remote learning can get very tiring for both students and teachers.  For this reason whether the children are at school or at home we provide lots of brain breaks. Please enjoy below some of the breaks we enjoying doing as a class.

Stay well and safe.

Kind Regards
