How reading 20 minutes a day benefits your child

At Galilee we place a great deal of emphasis on reading. Just 20 minutes of reading each day can make an incredible impact over the course of a child’s primary school years.

Reading at home can take many forms and should ideally include time for your child to read to you, as well as time when you read to your child.

Reading:

❖ Helps in language development

❖ Promotes brain development

❖ Aids in understanding of a world outside our own

❖ Strengthens family relationships

❖ Provides endless possibilities

❖ Improves concentration

❖ Improves listening skills

It is important to have your child read regularly every day rather than in sporadic bursts. Reading as little as 20 minutes per day is far more beneficial than reading 20 books in one day and then not reading again for a week. Children must read regularly so as to practise and consolidate their skills. As you can see by the diagram included, reading for 20 minutes each day makes an incredible difference!

School Holiday Maths

Dr. Paul Swan is an inspirational mathematics consultant from Western Australia, who regularly shares his exciting ideas, videos, and resources on his site. He has created a resource page to support students and parents during Remote Learning. Many of the resources are free to download and continue to focus on developing students' mathematical literacy. Galilee Devices

For any families that have borrowed a device from Galilee in Term 3, we ask that you continue to hold onto them over the holiday break.  If you do have a device, can you please ensure that you leave it in a safe place. When we return onsite, can you please bring the device back, along with the charger. Once returned, they will be cleaned and updated, ready for learning in the classroom. Please hand your device to Miss Elyse in the office.
