LIBRARY NEWS

Online resources for lockdown learning from home

Each day during lockdown the Library is providing online stories read by Mrs Madden. The links are being sent via Compass and the stories are categorised into various grade levels. Please take a moment to share these resources with your child so they continue to be provided with rich literature opportunities during lockdown.

Today, there were some tips shared to encourage a positive attitude to reading which will, in turn, encourage our children to read more. Nothing promotes reading more than making reading time enjoyable and a pleasant experience.  The article Reading Tips From Kids can be found HERE.

Book Week is coming

It's the most exciting time of the year for book lovers and dress up fans alike. The Children's Book Council of Australia Book Week celebrations are from 21-27 August.

The theme this year is 'Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds' which covers just about any story you would like to think of!

The best books by Australian authors for Australian kids are celebrated in all sorts of ways in schools across Australia. To see the shortlisted books that may be the winners of the Book of the Year in each category, go to the CBCA website HERE. We are currently looking at the books in class library visits and they will be able to be borrowed by the students after Book Week. The selection this year are excellent, as always, and if you see them while out shopping they always make great gifts for kids.

There will be lots of activities in the library for students at Recess and Lunch during that week to celebrate all things books. However, the most exciting event every time is the Book Character Parade!

The dates for the parades are:

Primary:  Wednesday 25th August

Infants:    Thursday 26th August

Sadly, due to Covid-19 rules, parents are unable to attend but we will take lots pics of happy smiling faces for our social media sites.

To keep students safe and in the spirit of the event, there are just a couple of rules we need to keep in place.

The basic rules are:

  • no flip flops (proper shoes only).
  • clothes appropriate for the weather and school environment.
  • each student must know their character and the book they are from. If they can bring a copy or photocopy that's great, but not mandatory.
  • if a student doesn't want to participate, then school uniform is to be worn. However, with a little bit of thought anyone can manage such characters as Too Cool!, Billie B Brown, Hey Jack!, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and other such realistic fiction characters.
