2022 Access Monash – E-Mentoring Program

The College in partnership with Monash University offers students several opportunities to connect and engage with university via the Access Monash Program

The E-Mentoring program offers Year 11 and 12 students the chance to be paired with experienced and engaged Monash student mentors to work in a one-on-one mentoring relationship for the final two years of secondary school.

Mentees receive individual support from their mentor who has walked a similar life path to them, in preparation for their future study and career. Through this, mentees are able to gain insight into university life. They learn from the experience of their mentors, participate in campus visits, and develop connections to university.

Running across Terms 2 and 3 students meet online once per fortnight to discuss a range of topics along with gaining an insight into the courses offered at Monash and finding out what it’s like be a 'uni student'. The support offered to senior students at this critical time in their education is invaluable.

Applications for the 2022 program will open on Monday 6th September – further details will be posted when available. If you would like to know more, please contact Careers.

VET – Vocational Education and Training

Do you know what you’re passionate about and want to get a head start?

Or is there something you’re considering but not sure about, so you’d like to give it a try?

Vocational Education and Training Programs assist students to make the transition to further education, training and employment. Many programs are based on entry level TAFE courses.

These programs are designed so that students can develop general work-related competencies and the skills and knowledge required in a particular industry.

VET PROGRAMS

  • Allow student to gain the VCE/VCAL and a VET qualification
  • Promote an awareness of the world of work through work placement
  • Develop general work-related competencies i.e.. skills in communication, team work, using technology, problem solving, using mathematical ideas and concepts, planning and organising team activities, gathering and analysing information and occupational health and safety
  • Develop the skills and knowledge required to work in a particular industry
  • Give students a competitive edge in looking for both casual and full- time employment

TAFE Gippsland cordially invite students, parents and caregivers to an online Information Session aimed to provide students with greater detail to assist when selecting a VET DSS Program for enrolment in 2022.

These sessions will present detailed course information including course content, assessment requirements, pre-requisite and placement information along with industry expectations and key considerations for students considering undertaking adult study as part of their school study load.

The information session will be followed by an opportunity to ask questions directly to staff ensuring students are able to make a fully informed decision.

School: What’s the point????

I’m sure lots of students are feeling a little isolated and frustrated this week with lockdown No.7.as we all are! We continue to say you are not alone…but saying that may not help?

I get it …...so I thought I would share some valid points about your education I found from the National Careers week flyer I found in my tray.

It reminds us that there is a bigger picture ahead of us and we need to remain focused and prepared for the future, your future. You need to be prepared to take on the world of work, because YOU are our future!

School…...on site or remote,

  • Prepares you for life
  • Helps you make friends
  • Gives you an education you will need to succeed in life
  • Offers Greater job prospects
  • Gives you the ability for a higher earning capacity
  • Offers Greater life/work opportunities

What you learn in school impacts the rest of your life…. most importantly school teaches you the skills to be independent and responsible.

So….

  1. Keep trying don’t give up. that’s too easy! Persistence will win!
  2. The skills you learn at school, you will use in the adult world
  3. Growing up isn’t boring and scary…you get as much fun out of it as you put into it…. it’s a matter of attitude
  4. Back yourself…you’re a winner
  5. Control your destiny…you are in charge
  6. Education is for life…we are ALL still learning
  7. You control your destiny- and will get out of it what you contribute…… have a great day!
