Tin Food Tower

The students of Bairnsdale Secondary College have rallied over the past couple of weeks to raise donations of tinned foods to give to Bairnsdale Neighbourhood House. The senior students of the College formed the Tin Food Tower at lunchtime on Friday the 20th of August to display the donations that have come in from across the year levels. The students have recognised the struggles of daily life during the COVID-19 pandemic and decided they wanted to pay-it-forward to the community to try and help those in the community who are doing it a bit tough.

Unit  3 and 4 Outdoor and  Environmental Studies

Students studying Unit 3 and 4 Outdoor and Environmental Studies snuck in a rafting excursion just before lockdown. The excursion was for 3 days, 18th August to 20th August from Willis to McKillops Bridge. Students meet with their rafting guides at Karoonda Park, were kitted up with wetsuits and dry bags.  They then proceeded up to Willis just before the NSW border to set up all the boats and be briefed on the journey. The following 3 days were spent paddling down stream through spectacular country, sleeping under tarps and eating delicious food. The students arrived at McKillops Bridge on Friday afternoon, packed up the gear and returned home, exhausted but well fed.

VCAL

VCAL students have been spending Thursday mornings volunteering their time at Bairnsdale Neighbourhood House – vegetables were sorted, meals were cooked, Op Shop stock was sorted, vegetable garden was mulched and even the van was washed! Students also cooked and donated meals of Lasagne, Chicken Curry and Shepard’s Pie to be distributed to community members in need.

Senior VCAL Students Bonny Paterson and Lilli Stephenson’s major project was involving other VCAL students in mosaic tile creations.  With the help of Kevin and Mitch from maintenance, the girls designed and made a beautiful pathway near the vegie garden.

“SUCCESS is the very predictable result of hard work, patience, sacrifice and learning that you put into practice every day.”

Our senior students were asked to reflect on this statement. Their responses were so inspiring that we thought they should be shared with our school community. Below are some our students responses.
