Camp

The Year 7 Hub are working hard on making sure that we have a camp in Term 4 due to the unfortunate cancellation of our camp this term. Nothing is set in stone yet but we are hoping that we can lock in something in October.

Health and Wellbeing

With lockdown extended it is important to make sure that you are looking after your health and wellbeing and seeking support if needed. Our wellbeing team can be contacted (please see their section of the newsletter for details) and doctors in schools is still running via telehealth. Make sure that everyone is getting physical activity at some stage every day. The recommended daily exercise amount for a Year 7 student is 1 hour of moderate to vigorous physical activity.

Remember that the Year 7 Hub is here to support. Please get in touch if we can help with anything.

Wellbeing challenge

Although remote learning comes with its own set of challenges, it comes with some fun ones too thanks to the amazing wellbeing team at BSC.

During extended remote learning periods our wellbeing team have put together challenges that students (and staff) can participate in. In the remote learning period starting week 7 of Term 3, the wellbeing team announced its new challenge. ‘The threatened species bake off”, this is a national annual challenge run by the Australian government department of agriculture, as well as the opportunity to participate in the National challenge, BSC also had an in house challenge, were you could: share your photos, celebrate each other’s success and creativity (by viewing and commenting on the submission on the schools Facebook account) and potentially win a prize. The participants were encouraged to research this years topic ‘Eco engineers’ as well as endangered Australian animals in preparation for the planning, baking and decorating of their masterpieces. We have had numerous Year 7’s submit beautiful creations, that look both incredible and delicious.

Bethany Radford, one of our Year 7 coordinators, eagerly jumped to the challenge baking a ‘northern hair—nosed wombat’, Miss. Radford’s creation had a pull-apart soft-pretzel body, decorated with Medjool dates, “I had a lot of fun researching eco engineers and baking the wombat, I was shocked to find out that Lyrebirds (an Australian eco engineer) can move up to 11 dump trucks of soil in a year!” – Miss. Radford.

German

In Year 7 German we have done a small cultural project where students created their own Schultüte.

It's a cone generally filled with lollies, chocolates and school supplies, given to children in Germany on their first day of school.

Maths

In 7N Maths students were writing messages using co-ordinates on a Cartesian Plane, and Leonard produced a very inspirational one.

It de-codes to: Lockdown is tough but you are tougher!

 Physical Education

Students taking advantage of beautiful locations close to home to complete their Physical Education tasks.

Textiles

For Textiles in Year 7 the task was to make a collage lion from the designer Clare Youngs. It was a 2 part lesson were they decorated the paper in one lesson and the following lesson they put the lion together.
