Primary News

Mr Liam Beatty

Dear Primary Families,

Last Friday you would have received communication from the Head of College, Mr Michael Newman pertaining to the College’s response to the current COVID-19 restrictions. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Primary Reception. Despite the restrictions, there certainly seems to be no signs of slowing down as our staff and students power through Week 7. There are a number of key events coming up across the College and I encourage you to take the time to read the messages below and check the College App regularly.

Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews

Primary Parent/Teacher/Student interviews are coming up in Term 4 on Tuesday 5 October and Monday 11 October. After the success of the Semester 1 2021 interviews, the College is planning to again offer face-to-face interviews at the College, and online interviews via Microsoft Teams. The booking process will remain the same for both days and will be via the Parent Portal. More details can also be found on the College App

Environmental Group

Last Friday our College Environmental Group challenged the boys to do their part for the environment by committing to a plastic-free lunch. Congratulations to 6 White who did not have a single piece of plastic across the class! As you can see from the photos below, the boys also enjoyed ‘Going Green’.

Orientation Days

Next Friday 3 September we look forward to welcoming the future Year 5 class of 2022 to their Primary School for their Orientation Day.

Whilst this will be a Student Free Day for our current Year 5 students, Year 6 students will be participating in the Year 7 2022 Orientation Day from 8:30am-12:00pm. There will also be a Parent Information Evening on Tuesday 7 September from 5:30pm-7:00pm. For more information please contact Mr Ryan Apps (Year 7 Transition Co-ordinator).

School Sport and Extra-Curricular Activities

It was great to welcome back school sport and our extra-curricular activities last week. My sincere thanks to Mr John Lambourne (Head of Primary Sport) and Luke Caplick (Head of Sport) for all their efforts in ensuring our boys got a game on the weekend.

Chrome Book Request

Due to the Year 5 Orientation Day on Friday 3 September 3, we are asking all students in Years 5 and 6 to ensure that their school Chrome Books are fully charged when they attend school on Thursday 2 September. Students will be asked to leave their Chrome Books at school over the long weekend so that they can be used for Year 5 Orientation activities. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

End of Year Reporting

As we get to the pointy end of the term, students are being encouraged to reflect on the learning goals they established at the beginning of the term and build in additional study and revision to their homework timetables in preparation for upcoming assessments. A reminder to both parents and students that before school tutoring is still available to all students who require assistance in any area.

At the conclusion of Term 3, parents/guardians can expect to receive an academic report detailing their child’s progress throughout the term. This report will reflect both academic achievement and effort invested across key criteria.

Primary Sport Update – Mr John Lambourne

As the Queensland Government lifted community sport restrictions the announcement that AIC Sport would resume sent a buzz of excitement throughout the College, no more so than amongst the Primary boys. It was quite a scene on Friday morning, as I did a round of all the different teams and sports training; there were basketballers in the gym, high jumpers at the MCA athletics centre, tennis players on the courts and the middle-distance runners on McMahon Oval, a total of over 100 Primary boys giving their all for the College.
