Principal's Report

Teaching Writers

Teaching Writers was the focus for our two highly productive days with Andrea Hillbrick. On Thursday Andrea took the lead role in five of our classrooms across the school working with our ‘young writers’ and modelling to the teachers effective and engaging teaching strategies in writing. In addition to this Andrea’s expertise in the craft of teaching was on display, all five lessons were master classes.

On Friday Andrea worked closely with the teachers to unpack the effectiveness of the strategies she utilised in her classroom practice on the Thursday. Andrea’s work with the staff and the students over the past two years has produced not only a whole school plan for our writers but has given the teachers the strategies to successfully implement the plan with amazing results.

Special Presentation Assembly

On Friday 3rd March, Matt Fregon MP our local member attended our special assembly to present our leadership badges to our Year 6 recipients and the special Library Bags supplied by the Department of Education to our Foundation students. It was great to see so many parents attend this outdoor assembly. Our Year 6 leaders did an amazing job hosting the event.

NAPLAN

Congratulations to all our Year 3 and 5 students who are currently engaged in their NAPLAN assessment this week. Students have completed assessments in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation and numeracy will be completed tomorrow. NAPLAN results are one part of our assessment schedule, the results are viewed alongside other types of assessments completed by the students throughout the year. NAPLAN is also a great tool for schools to reflect on their strengths and challenges in teaching and learning. It is data that can help measure the impact of programs and identify goals for the future. The school results will be available in Term Two and in July parents will receive their child’s individual NAPLAN report.

Harmony Day

Next Tuesday, all the students will be engaged in activities to celebrate Harmony Week. Mrs Fisher and the Student Representative Council (SRC) have been busy organising the activities. We are hoping students will be able to wear something ‘orange’ in colour or their national dress (a gold coin is NOT required).

Easter Raffle

Thank you to all the families who have donated eggs for the Easter Raffle. With the weekend fast approaching it may be a great time for families to purchase some Easter eggs, chocolates or Easter giftware for the prizes.  The more prizes we have the more fun the raffle is.

Welcome Picnic

The excitement is mounting for our ‘Welcome Picnic’ tomorrow evening. We are really looking forward to seeing as many families as possible gather on the oval and enjoy some community time together.
