Term 3 has been a period of incredible energy, achievement and celebration at Reservoir High School. There has been a wide array of events across the school. Our students have demonstrated how remarkable they are, whether it be showcasing their talents in the Performing Arts, their sporting prowess or their academic excellence, our students have achieved highly in a range of pursuits and made all of us proud at Reservoir High School.

The focus for this term with all of our students has very much been on commitment to study, persistence in learning and ‘digging deep’ even when it seems challenging and hard. As the Year 12 exams come nearer, we have been supporting our Year 12 students to extend themselves in their learning and study and ‘give everything they have got’ to achieve success in their final year of schooling.

We welcomed all of our neighbouring Grade 5 and 6 Primary School students over a number of weeks as they competed in the Reservoir Cup, a long-running soccer tournament hosted by Reservoir High School. Our students demonstrated outstanding leadership and care towards the younger children, as they helped run the event.

On Friday 25th August we celebrated Wear It Purple Day at Reservoir High School. Our staff proudly wore purple, as did many students at the school. It was heartening to see how as a school we can demonstrate respect, compassion and inclusion for all members of our community.

Our Term 3 Whole-school Assembly was an amazing event, where we came together to celebrate individual achievement and foster whole-school spirit. Having our students organise and run an assembly of such magnitude demonstrates the genuine student voice and leadership that exists at the school.

The Course Counselling Interviews that took place with students and parents from across Years 9-11 ensured every student is supported as they transition from Year 10 into the senior program. The partnership that exists between the school, our students and parents is very special and is something we will continue to foster.

For those of you who were able to attend a performance of our school production of Shrek, will understand how incredible it was in showcasing the amazing talents and strengths of our students, each who were dynamic, full of vitality and joy when performing. I was a very proud Principal, sitting and watching the talent of our students and witnessing the commitment and dedication of our staff.

Just how exceptional our students are was further demonstrated in the outstanding results of our students in the NMR Athletics Competition, in what was a highly competitive field. Our Debating Team was triumphant and for a second year in a row, won the Grand Final in the Lions Club Interschool Debating Competition against Northcote High School, which is truly remarkable.

We had the official opening of the new Design Technology Centre on Monday of this week. The Minister for Education Hon. Natalie Hutchins and the Member for Preston, Mr Nathan Lambert, attended along with other distinguished guests, staff and students. It was a wonderful occasion and a true celebration for our school community. Year 11 Food Technology student, Arielle, and Kingston, a Year 7 student who is currently studying Textiles, both shared their passion for design and what learning in such a stunning building meant to them. The unveiling of the Aboriginal painting and hearing the vision behind the piece by the artist Simon Thomson was very powerful. Before they left the two Ministers toured the Design Centre and observed the learning that was taking place. They were incredibly impressed.

A term characterised by excellence, celebration and connection was further emphasised by our three Year 9 students who are currently at the School For Student Leadership.

Aiden, Alexia and Abdo have been living away for the duration of this term at the Gnurad Campus near Warrnambool with students from other Government schools across Victoria. They have been developing their own leadership skills as well as planning a project to bring back to Reservoir High School next year. I had the pleasure of visiting our students last week and was in awe of their maturity and insightfulness.

I have greatly enjoyed this term and am so proud of what we, the staff, students and parents can collectively achieve. I wish you a restful holiday break and very much look forward to welcoming you all back to the final term of 2023.
