Northern Star Chess Tournament

By Will Chen

Every year Northern Star Chess runs an ongoing interschool Chess tournament that seeks to teach, engage, and promote Chess to students within Primary and Secondary schools.

Reservoir High School has once again entered this year, with greater interest and participation since our initial entry in 2018. With more than 40 students participating across two tournaments in Semester Two, we are proud to see this level of interest from our students.

Students play 7 rounds of 12-minute rapid Chess with physical timers a tournament rules against students from other competing schools. With many Year 7s competing for the first time in a physical environment, this was a great learning experience for improving their over skill.

Congratulations as well to Zainab Syeda 9A and Jorja Stocco 11C for achieving Third Place in the Girls Category. Good luck to Ron Yamaguchi 10D and Brodie Fullard 10B at the regional finals in October.
