Music At HCC

We have had a very productive term in music at HCC. Classroom music in both the Primary and Secondary schools has thrived.

The Prep class has learnt about beat, high and low, loud and soft and fast and slow. They have enjoyed playing the instruments, singing, moving and listening.

Grades 1 and 2 have enjoyed learning about rhythm and beat, and pitch and melody. Grade 3-6 have had a focus on rhythms, raps and rhymes. Grades 3 and 4 have also enjoyed learning to play the recorder with Mr Henry’s Music World raps, while Grades 5 and 6 have enjoyed creating their lyrics and accompaniments for raps.

The Grade 5 and 6 students have commenced auditioning for the Primary production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which will be performed in the last week of Term 3.

The Year 7 class has commenced learning instruments for their band and many interesting sounds from the flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones and percussion have been emitted from the music rooms.

The Year 8 band class enjoyed a two-day music event run by CSEN. Students from a number of schools joined together to play in a combined band, then performed in a concert at the conclusion of the event. Parents were suitably impressed with the skill and competent way our Year 8 students performed.

Our senior music students have been working hard at developing their individual performance programmes for their VCE Music subject and some have recently performed at the Term 1 Soiree.

Senior Band has rehearsed after school on Thursday afternoons under the leadership of Mr Jason Rolfe. They are making excellent progress and are looking forward to performing in our Autumn Concert next term. They have also accompanied the National Anthem every second week at the whole school assembly. The String and Woodwind Ensemble has played on the alternative Thursday mornings.

All instrumental music teachers have been working well with individual students. There are limited vacancies for more singing, piano, and guitar students. For further inquiries, please contact Allison Hart at allison.hart@hcc.vic.edu.au. We have included a few words below regarding a singing lesson with Michelle Scott, our singing teacher.

On Wednesday 5 April, we concluded Term 1 with a Soiree, where individual students from throughout the school performed and shared excellent performances with an appreciative audience.

We are looking forward to Music in Term 2, including our Autumn Concert.

Private Music Lessons

Learning a musical instrument brings many benefits and joys. Spots are available for new vocal students to learn singing with Michelle Scott. Michelle is a singing teacher with over 16 years of experience in schools. Her passion is giving students the tools to sing better, and with confidence and expression in their performances.

Michelle has taught students up to the VCE level, and is willing to teach the AMEB for all singing systems: classical voice, singing for leisure and musical theatre. She is looking forward to meeting students that are enthusiastic about developing a more powerful and pure sound in singing.

Places are also available for piano and guitar lessons. For further inquiries, please contact Allison Hart at allison.hart@hcc.vic.edu.au
