Peer groups play an important role in young people’s lives, particularly during adolescence. The influence of peers can impact in both a positive and negative way.
Peer pressure amongst young people is, to a varying degree, difficult to avoid. Peer pressure might be described as a feeling that one must do the same things as other people of one's age and social group in order to be liked or respected by them and to fit in.
Coping well with peer influence is about your child getting the balance right between being themselves and fitting in with their friends. With your influence and a strong sense of themselves, it is more likely your child will know where to draw the line when it comes to peer pressure and influence.
Let’s pray that our young people grow to understand that it’s not our peers who we should allow to mould us into their image but that we should be moulded and shaped into the image of an obedient follower of Christ.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” ~ Romans 12:2
Please find below the link to an article from Kids Helpline that focusses on how we, as adults can help children and teens navigate peer pressure.

The Grade 9 QUEST student and staff group had a challenging start to their camp on Maria Island. We experienced gale-force winds as we tried to set up tents at our campsite; chosen for us by Parks and Wildlife! While the winds abated over the next 48 hours, it proved a bumpy start to the camp. Students responded well to this challenge and were able to withstand the elements and generally get on with the camp program. Maria Island is a magnificent National Park and World Heritage Area, and a favourite camp destination for many Tasmanian schools. Over the last few years it has become a favourite destination for tourists from all over the world. Our group met people from Argentina, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, the US, and many other exotic far away lands. The Darlington historic site, with its history dating back to a convict prison, provides a wealth of learning opportunities and a great perspective for our students to contrast with their own camp and island experience. While we have been discussing the theme of courage, our students gained a new appreciation for the courage of those early settlers trying to build a life in this at times harsh and challenging environment.
Walks to the Painted Cliffs, the Reservoir Circuit, Bishop and Clerk, a cross-country challenge back to camp, a coastal walk along the rocky foreshore along the Fossil Cliffs, a climb into one of the cement silos, and a jetty jump after the last ferry were just some of the camp activities enjoyed by students.
