Chess Competition

CHESS DAY 31st October 2019

Congratulations to all students who competed in the North West District Primary School One Day Chess Teams Tournament at Nemingha Primary School on Thursday 31st October.

St Joseph’s West Tamworth entered four chess teams of three.

Our chess players:  Charlie McKenzie, Peter Lanaja, Emerson Whetton, Jade Simmonds, Declan Wood, Malachy McKenzie, Jossie Vince, Charlette Lyon, Juliah Wood, Sienna French, Arabella Hamilton.

By all accounts our students had a wonderful day and enjoyed the opportunity to play seven rounds of chess.  The competition was of a very high standard.  Comments were made as to how well the students played and on their outstanding behaviour.

Thirty nine teams were entered in the competition from ten different schools coming from Blackville, Duri, Timbumburi, Nemingha, Calrossy, Kootingal, Quirindi, Tamworth Public  and  South Tamworth. St Joseph’s  finished second - this was a marvellous achievement for students involved.

Thank you to Neminhga Public School for their hospitality and to the NSW Junior Chess League for its organisation.

A special congratulations goes to Peter Lanaja as our school's Most Improved Player on the day winning six games from seven rounds. Arabella Hamilton received the Encouragement Award winning four games and drawing three .

Thank you to Melissa Whetton for assisting with supervision on the day.
