Year 12 Studio Art attended an online excursion to Top Arts and the NGV

Our online excursion to NGV was definitely quite a different yet insightful experience. Everything ran very smoothly, and interacting with the presenter was made really easy. Unlike our previous top art experiences, our presenter gave us a guided tour of the art space and showed us student’s final pieces and folios.

Despite it being online, you could still appreciate the artworks of the students and the information accompanying them. The online gallery space is very accessible with features that you will not usually have during a normal gallery visit. Overall, it was a very convenient way to view a gallery and proves that technology is very effective in times like these :) - Sarah Kleiner

Being on a virtual excursion was just as interactive and informing as being at the gallery in person. The excursion was well presented and allowed a greater understanding of peoples personal perspectives on art. Not only this, but videos, images and a virtual tour into the art space allowed me to fully immerse myself in the gallery and its complexity - Thania Micallef

In a time where everything is out of the ordinary, it was nice to feel a sort of normalcy such as being able to go to an excursion. Whilst we were not able to go to a new place with our friends and we were still given the opportunity to learn new ideas and explore new artists in a new virtual world.

The NGV were so ready to help us in our studio art discovery. The sense of normalcy that surrounded the excursion was nice for us as students. Ultimately the virtual excursion allowed us a greater opportunity and time span to explore the Top Arts Exhibition and allow for us to gain a better understanding of all the thoughts of the artist. - Indiana Hatzakortzian

Staying at Home and Signs of Hope during Covid -19.

As part of a year 10 Photography project, students were asked to capture “signs of hope and positivity” in their neighbourhood and at home. The photographs tell stories of hope during this time of isolation. The Covid-19 crisis has changed the world and how we view it.

The 'story' behind the photos.

Originally, my idea was to take pictures of things that I’ve been doing during the Covid 19 isolation. However, I ended up going outside and taking many other pictures instead. The swing photo was my first time going outside for a walk, which felt really nice. This was the first photo I thought of when this task was given to us. I wanted the show how sad it is outside since there are no kids going to the park with the family. The picture with the graffiti on the ground, it reminded me of the people doing chalk art on the footpath and I wasn’t expecting to see art on the ground especially in my neighbourhood.

I had an idea to take some photos of my baby cousin because I wanted to still create new memories especially during this time. We started on the footpath with his bike and eventually moved to different location around the neighbourhood.
