School Council President's Report
School Council President's Report
School Council is actively seeking State Government approval to build Stage 2 of Beaumaris Secondary College, which would extend the current three-storey Learning Hub further along Balcombe Road towards Black Rock, up to the cricket/football Oval.
With our significant enrolment numbers for 2019 (154 for Year 8 and 208 for Year 7) we are on schedule to outgrow our existing, initial facilities by 2021. Our community consultation and public meetings between 2011-14 had given us the insight that the school would be enormously popular if built and opened, but nevertheless the student numbers have vastly exceeded the Department of Education's expectations.
We have spent significant time analysing data for projected enrolments over the next six years, using the students numbers at our feeder Primary schools. Using the projected percentage uptake for Beaumaris SC from those families from inside the DNB zone, we are expecting to be at capacity for our current buildings in early 2021.
Over the last two months, we have met with representatives from both the State Government and Opposition to advocate for the already mapped out and designed Stage 2 of Beaumaris SC to be funded and built in the next term of Government. This would take the school to its 'Long-Term Enrolment' capacity of 1100 students. Our discussions were positive with both sides of politics and we will keep you posted as to any further developments in the near future.
Kind Regards,
Steve Pearce (President) & Shaun Mooney (Treasurer)
