Principal's Report
Principal's Report
“In the Spring, I have counted 136 different kinds of weather inside of 24 hours.”
Mark Twain
It almost seems that Mark Twain was writing about our Melbourne weather. The daylight hours are longer which is lovely along with some very pleasant sunny spring days. As we move to the end of our third term, it has been amazing to reflect on the wonderful learning experiences and growth of our students. We will be showcasing some of their wonderful ideas with the Innovate Expo early next term along with our inaugural musical production written by students and music by one of our very talented teachers. Our numbers for 2019 are starting to firm up with just over 200 students joining us in 2019.
I wish you all a very safe and relaxing holiday break. Students will return to Term 4 in summer uniform.
Naplan Results
We received NAPLAN results last week. The reports were mailed to parents and should have been received last week. Our students have significant strengths in numeracy and reading and are strong in spelling, grammar and punctuation. The results are at the expected level for reading. We have found that idea generation and vocabulary are the two areas that we will be developing in their writing from the initial review of the results. It is a testament to the wonderful work our local primary schools are doing to prepare students for secondary school.
Displaying our Culture
We will have our new signage up around the Learning Hub next term
You may have also noted our Safe Schools Signs at the gates around the college as well.
Student/Parent/ Teacher Conferences
Reminder to book your appointments for Friday October 12th from 11am to 7pm. Students are required to attend the conferences with parents and we will provide supervision for students needing to attend at regular school hours but there will be no scheduled classes. The COMPASS booking system went live at 4pm on Monday September 10th. We have also blocked out a dinner break for all staff at the same time. We will be setting up a buzzer as well so that appointments are kept to time.
Math Circle Co-Curricular
Maths Circle began last week with 6 students participating in the program. The extension program will run every Tuesday from 3:45 to 4:45. We are hoping that the numbers will increase as we move into Term 4. Thank you to Steve Melnikoff for sharing his passion and expertise with our students.
Buildings and Grounds
Our students now have access to the newly completed outdoor basketball courts. These have been a wonderful addition to our external grounds. It is a terrific new space that we now need to maintain. It also attracts a number of out of school users.
Many of you would have seen that groundworks are now underway with the Multipurpose Pitch (MPP).We are hoping to see this completed by the start of December.
Please note that the last day of term will finish at 2:30pm.
