Kindergarten

KJ

“I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a book”. In KJ they have been learning to read and have enjoyed sharing the very hungry caterpillar. George said he has been reading ’The Volcano Blast’ at home. Keep up the great reading KJ! By Amelie B

 

KM

In English lessons KM have been learning how to sound out words starting with S. They have cut out pictures of objects starting with S. They have read and sounded out environmental sounds and read a book called ‘The Hungry Caterpillar.’ Evie and Duke said they have been playing English games and picking toys out of a bag. By Ava R

 

Year 1

1J

In English 1J has been learning about punctuation. They learnt that a sentence ALWAYS starts with a capital letter. They have also been learning that you use a comma if you need to take a breath and that every sentence ends with either a full stop, explanation mark, or a question mark (when it’s a question). Layne and Aston have been enjoying school and are ready for the challenges ahead this school year!By Sadhbh B

 

1M

A B C D E F G H I…..

This week 1M have been enjoying  English. They have enjoyed taking home readers home and sharing their reading skills with their family. Pria and Will believe that reading sparks their imagination. They also enjoyed learning about nouns and separating them between proper and common. They enjoyed literacy rotations also and are looking forward to the rest of the term. By Bridget C

 

Year 2

2J

In 2J they have been learning about something called Author’s Purpose. When they do Author’s Purpose they have to decide if the text is an informative, persuasive or an entertaining text. To go along with what type of text they have been using they have also been trying to decide audience age. They have been reading two short texts called “Pick A Banana” and “Growing Bananas”. They had to write the difficult words from the texts on a sheet. They have also been working on a story called bucket fill for kinder with a lot of kind messages included. By Camryn I

 

2M

2M have been learning persuasive language, narrative, full stops, capital letters and punctuation in English this term. They have also been learning what the author's purpose is. They have enjoyed reflecting on and writing about their weekend. Bianca said she loves English as it’s her favourite subject.   

 

Year 3

3J

I wonder what 3J are up to in English? 

They have been learning about descriptive language and how to use it to gain deeper understanding of the text. They have also looked at the text ‘Pig the Pug’ and have been describing the personality of the main characters. They have been learning about similes and metaphors, how to use them and what they are. At the back of their book they have an alphabetical word box which they fill in when they find a word that they do not know or is unusual. 3J students are looking ahead to this year in English which they will learn some new and exciting strategies and words! By Jessica

 

3M

3M liked using ‘Words their Way’ in small groups to explore word sorts and lock in spelling strategies. They are learning to use strong language and good vocabulary so that their writing can hook the reader. By Andrew

Year 4

4J

This week, 4J has been storming through their English tasks! In the morning, they have 15 minutes of silent reading. They have Guided Reading groups in which they read a text with Mr Cox. They have also written short narratives about real-life plants such as orchards. As a class, they have been reading Darius Bell and the Crystal Bees then illustrating a scene from the book. 4J have recently sculpted Uluru with Play-Doh. They sculpted a ‘before Uluru was discovered and an after Uluru was discovered’  scene. 4J have also been studying how Uluru is chemically weathered. They are one hard-working class!

4M

In 4M the students have been reading a book called Darius Bell and the Crystal Bees. The students have been illustrating what they thought the bell tower in the story looked like. 4M have also read a text about Jumping Spiders and were highlighting key parts of the text. They then summarised the key parts and rewrote them into their own sentences. Last week in handwriting, the students were practising their entries and exits with Mrs Parker, to help improve their cursive writing. The students in 4M were looking at the year six’s spider reports from 2018, as they will soon be writing their spider report as well.  By Aidan

 

Year 5

5J

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr Seuss, 5J will definitely be going places, they have been reading Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. This emotionally charged novel has made 5J understand how fortunate they are to have an education. In independent reading, Nathan has been reading dragon keeper a fantasy novel written by Australian author Carole Wilkinson and Tyler has been reading One boy and his Dog a beautiful book adapted from a 1975 film.  By Neve D

 

5M

In 5M Georgia and Ruben have been learning reciprocal reading in groups, as well as recreating stories such as the ‘Fish in the Tree’. They also have been learning more about verbs and nouns to bump up their writing. By Amelie B and Keely  B

 

Year 6

Yr 6 have been doing a thing called ‘Monday Memories’ where they reflect on their weekend and write a paragraph or short summary about it. They have also been exploring word sorts to identify spelling patterns and rules. They complete listening sorts, open sorts and speed sorts...which are lots of fun! By Mickey F
