School Handbook

Have you got 4 minutes and 46 seconds in this second week of Lent?

During Lent, your child/ren will be learning about Lent during their daily Religious Education lesson. Why not listen to Fr Richard Leonard, who always brings a contemporary view to our church teachings and practices.  After watching the video, you may like to find a minute to engage with your child /ren about Lent. You are their first teacher in the faith, what a privilege!

Thank you!

Thank you to all parents for your high expectations and regard for the school uniform. The school uniform is an outward sign of respect for the school and for self. Your efforts to present your children for school in correct uniform are very much appreciated.

Pastoral Support for Students

I am pleased to advise that St Joseph’s has been successful in engaging a Pastoral Support Worker through the National School Chaplains Program (NSCP) for 2020-2022.

CatholicCare Wollongong administers the program and Cecilia Welch has been appointed as the Pastoral Support Worker to St Joseph’s, two days per week. Cecilia is experienced, skilled and qualified to provide:

  • support for students with emotional needs
  • group work sessions
  • whole-class programs to build friendship, conflict resolution, self-esteem building, resilience and/ or mindfulness skills,
  • additional playground support for students
  • family support.

Cecilia will work closely with teachers and myself to select the programs to be delivered to the students who will most benefit throughout the year.

Cecilia has already been a blessing to many students and families over the last few weeks and I am very pleased that she has joined our staff in assisting students with their social and emotional needs given the very complex world children live in today.

Kerrie Paul, our CatholicCare School Counsellor is also available for the counseling needs of students.

Addressing Student Issues

The process to address any classroom based issue:

  1. Contact the class teacher through the office to organise a meeting
  2. Should the issue not be resolved, then an appointment may be requested with a Leadership Team Member - Assistant Principal, REC or Middle Leader.
  3. Parents may contact the Principal with concerns at any time.

Please know that when staff contact you as a parent regarding your child, they are looking to work with you to support your child. This is the case whether it is an academic, social or behaviour concern.
