SUBJECT SELECTION PROCESS

The Subject Expo was a huge hit last week with plenty of students/families attending their information session followed by the expo in the Hall. Students are now required to enter their electives/subject choices for 2019 via the online system. All students have been emailed their logon and password details to enable them to complete their subject choices. There are many avenues that students can use to support them to make informed subject decisions; these include their tutor, House Leadership, Careers Coordinator, teachers-ES staff and family. Each year level have a specific staff member that will support them to submit their subject selections for 2019. They are listed below;

  • Year 8 into 9                       Tutor
  • Year 9 into 10                     PhoenIX Teacher
  • Year 10 into 11                  Leading Teachers
  • Year 11 into 12                  VCE Coordinator

Year 7 students will choose their 2019 Language in class. If there are any current SPP students requiring assistance with their subject selection they can come to the Library next Tuesday 21st August from 3.30pm to discuss options.

It is important that all students submit their 2019 subject choices by MONDAY 27th August. This will enable us to begin the blocking process for our 2019 timetabling and staffing process.

20 DAYS OF GRATITUDE – BENEFIT MINDSET CHALLENGE

We are currently in the middle of our 20 Days of Gratitude. This is where we are encouraging our students to acknowledge other students who treat people with respect. Students can acknowledge these students by placing a gratitude note in one of the six boxes located outside of House offices. They need to write the students name and what they have seen the student do that displays respect towards another person at Warrnambool College. This is one of the Positive Psychology strategies our staff and students are using to ensure the Warrnambool College community approach their lives with a benefit mindset. Very simply, for 20 days, students, teachers and parents are invited to practice a small act of everyday leadership (such as express gratitude or a random act of kindness). A Benefit Mindset gives people a purpose about the way they approach everyday situations and try to do good in their community. Being a leader in everyday life can ripple out to not only benefit others, but can also benefit us in terms of our own wellbeing.  When we do good by others, the people we help not only receive a benefit, but we also receive a benefit in terms of our own health and wellbeing. Please have a chat with your children about the Benefit Mindset Challenge and the gratitude boxes on their House Office that promote positive behaviour.
