Music Report
Thank you to everyone who came out on a cold and wet night to support our annual Jazz Night on 1 May. A special thank you to those volunteers who assisted us with transporting equipment for Jazz Night last week and also the Music Association for their support with the door, raffle and silent auction on the night. It was great for our ensembles to play for such a large and appreciative audience.
All 9 ensembles that you heard at Jazz Night gave even better performances at Generations in Jazz, Mt Gambier. Although no places were awarded, all ensembles gave their best and gained a lot from the various performances and workshops throughout the weekend.
Congratulations to Charlie Lodge, a year 8 percussionist who is the recipient of the Blanchard Award at Generations in Jazz.
The Blanchard Award is open to talented instrumental students in either their first or second year of high school. It is through the generous support of Ross and Jenny Blanchard and their commitment to the development of young musicians that Generations in Jazz is able to offer $5000 to both a female and a male recipient.
This development award is designed to help young students at the beginning of their high school journey and for talented students who need some financial help to reach their full musical potential.
On Monday May 8, three of our string players Elisha Dana, Sahana Dana and Chelsey Chen were selected from all Melbourne schools to participate in the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s Melbourne String Workshop at The Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. All three students gained a lot from participating in this very prestigious work shop.
Thank you to everyone who attended our Junior Autumn Concert last night and congratulations to all our training and junior groups who also performed. Heathmont East Primary Senior Strings and RSC Senior Strings also added cameo performances on the night which was much appreciated by our packed audience.
Our Senior Concert will be slightly early on Thursday 1 June, this year due to Victorian Schools Music Strings Festival happening the following week. All intermediate and senior groups will be performing at this concert. Please don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to hear our senior and upcoming musicians. As you know our recent Junior Concert sold out well before the night so don’t delay in booking for this concert.
