Math - designing a town

Students are learning about shape, area and location in Math!

Students must select a type of town of their choice (eg. coastal town, city, farmland) and adhere to the specifications of each town's need. All towns have a checklist of requirements and students have been working through these checklists and applying elements of shape, area and location to ensure their town is suitable for any natural disasters (should it ever occur!).

Students have been using grid paper to measure and draw their towns, ensuring they are adhering to their own choice of scale and are including a key. Once these towns are mapped out, students create 3D shapes to lift their towns from 2D to 3D models!

Have a look at some of these carefully constructed masterpieces so far! As you can see, students are doing their problem solving in their math books before they add to their town plans.
