We need your help - Public Toilets

Dear parents and carers,
We’re writing to you on behalf of SKiPPS School Council with more Toilet Talk.
We want to stop the City of Port Phillip Council’s proposal to build public toilets in the parkland next to our school and we need your help to do it.
We understand many of you have heard from us on this issue before. In fact it’s likely you’ve taken action previously by signing our petition, writing to local Council representatives or being part of the fantastic protest on Fitzroy Street last year that was captured by 9 News last year.
Despite these incredible efforts, Councillors voted to proceed with the proposal at a meeting in June last year. Since then the School Council has continued to make representations to local state and federal MPs and consulted with police, local traders and Council representatives on this issue.
We believe it's not too late to stop the process, but we need to act quickly and we need your support. We need to make sure the Council understands how angry we are about the proposed toilet. We need as many people as possible to make some noise and let the Council hear our opposition.
Here are 3 simple ways you can take action today and help us oppose CoPP’s plan.
- Make a submission on the CoPP's Have Your Say page (5 minutes of your time). The community consultation process regarding the proposed 2023-2033 toilet plan is now underway, and you can share your feedback and concerns via the ‘Have your Say’ portal on the Council website by Wednesday 12 July 2023. Life is busy and we know it can be difficult to find the time to write a submission but it’s important council hears from our community. That’s why we’ve prepared some key talking points you might like to include in your submission to make the process a little easier.
- Request to speak at the next City of Port Phillip Council Meeting tonight Wednesday 21 June (2 minutes of your time). You don’t have to be physically at the meeting, you can voice your concerns online and use our Talking Points to help craft what you’d like to say. If you wish to attend remotely, you need to register by 4 pm.
- Email or phone City of Port Phillip Councillors (5-20 minutes of your time). We’ve compiled a list of contacts for you here so you can easily get started with an email. We recommend starting with our Lake Ward representatives, but if you have time, contact as many as you’re able to!
We remain confident that with enough community support we can succeed in stopping this project and preserve the unique, welcoming and inclusive culture of our school.
As always, please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to discuss this matter further.
We thank you in advance for your support.
