7S Maths
This term, not only was it Reconciliation Week and not only was it Free-Dress Day but 7S participated in an investigation to discover the value of pi!
Students used string to measure the circumferences of a circle, calculated the ratio of circumference to the diameter and ‘discovered’ the approximate value of pi.
Here are some photos of students undertaking the investigation task.
Next lesson, students will proceed to calculate the area of the First Nations flag as part of their Area of Flags Assessment Task.
Year 7 Higher Achieving Maths
Year 7 students who have been recognised by their Mathematics teacher as being Higher Achieving Mathematics students and are not the Skepsi program have been invited to participate in an enrichment program. This program provides opportunities for students to get to know like-minded students from other classes and be given opportunities to be enriched and challenged.
A Teams group has been formed and students are regularly challenged with puzzles and mathematical problems. Students are encouraged to discuss and compare their solutions. On Thursday 22 June, the students met for two periods and participated in an incursion.
Our new Numeracy Learning Specialist, Mr John Rainbow, led the students through a variety of activities including the 31 Game which they played using playing cards from Ace to six. The then moved onto an Alphabetics task and an introduction to Linear Algebra.
We are planning an excursion next term and another incursion day in Term 4.
