Level Low Downs

Prep

What an end to Term 2! We have finished our Inquiry projects, consolidated our learning, and of course wrapped up our week with our favourite Year 6 buddies! We wish all the Prep families a wonderful and safe holiday.

Year 1

To celebrate the end of Term 2, on Tuesday the Year One students participated in a Winter day! We came to school wearing our winter woollies, completed crafts, tasted hot chocolates and played our favourite games.

Year 2

Thank you to all our parents who have volunteered over the term for Working Bees and excursions. We also appreciate your commitment to our reading program and thank you for regularly listening to your child read. Our Early Bird reading program was highly successful. 2K and 2W are looking forward to having their turn.

This fortnight we have focussed on narrative writing and on descriptive writing. In our Geography Inquiry we looked at how we are connected to our special place. Learners created fabulous collages in Art to use as a background and they wrote descriptive sentences using powerful adjectives and precise verbs.

In Maths, we have continued using highly engaging games to consolidate knowledge and create strong foundations for skip counting and addition.

We wish you a wonderful time with family during the school holidays. We are looking forward to a busy Term 3.

Year 3

The Year 3 students have done an exceptional job this term learning all about Australia’s History. To demonstrate their understanding of the First Fleet, their final task was to write a historical narrative from the perspective of a convict child. The students worked on their narratives across a number of weeks, writing many drafts and finishing with a final copy that they were very proud of. To share their amazing work with families, we asked the students to dress up in character and film themselves reading their stories for Seesaw. At the end of the day, the Year 3 teachers decided to play some ‘olden day’ games with the students, as a bit of fun. We had a great day celebrating all their hard work across the term.

The students have done a fantastic job with their learning this semester and we are looking forward to a great second half of the year.

We wish everybody a happy and safe holiday!

Year 4

The last two weeks of Year 4 have been jam packed. We have been very impressed by the student’s Inquiry projects for geography where they had to design their own countries. Each country had to be located in either Australia, Africa or South America and the features had to be realistic based on location. They designed detailed maps and included some amazing ideas. We are looking forward to our focus next term, which is science.

Year 5

Civics and Citizenship

The students in Year 5 have been working hard to finish off their end of term Civics and Citizenship project. Students selected a problem that they feel passionate about in the local or global community and have worked on an action to how it can be changed or improved. Many students have created persuasive letters or websites to inform others of their issue. Everyone has worked so hard and has thought of some creative approaches to how they can take action on their issue.

NAIDOC week

Year 5 students have participated in NAIDOC week activities. Students have explored the difference between a welcome to country and acknowledgement of country. They then researched and wrote their own acknowledgement to country and presented it as a poster.

Upstanders

The Year 5 Upstanders team met online with Upstanders from Hampton PS, Brighton Beach PS, Sandringham East PS and Sandringham PS to launch our community project for this year. The Upstanders will be creating slogans that will be displayed as footpath decals in our local community. Everyone is very excited and has started brainstorming fantastic ideas!

Year 6

The Year 6’s were a “glow” this Thursday, during our afternoon exposé for our Science Inquiry Unit. The students had an opportunity to showcase their incredible House Lighting Design Projects. Each student had to think scientifically to design and/or replicate a fully functional circuit. They carefully considered every aspect of their projects and engaged in a design phase, creation/build and then reflected on the effectiveness of their designs. Thank you to the parents and special friends who stopped by. The Year 6’s enjoyed sharing their scientific rationales with you!
