Associate Principal's Report

A Vibrant, Dynamic Changing Community

Welcome back to the parent, staff and student community.  It’s been a busy start to the new year.  Staff and students have returned to work with renewed energy, focusing on their core business of teaching and learning, and excited about the continued development of our House system.

Our Year 7 Induction Program was a great success.  This unique and exciting program, the only one of its kind in the outer Eastern region, focused on welcoming our 2021 Year 7 students and parents to the school.  The program aims to provide parents and students with a greater understanding of secondary schooling, and not only aims to address the educational aspects, but it also addresses issues around the social and emotional developments that parents may face with their children both at school and at home.  Our aim is to make the transition as smooth as possible so that students feel safe and familiar in the new school environment.

Our focus for 2021 will be the continued improvement on developing and improving teaching and learning.  Staff will be working in Profession Learning Teams and sharing best practice to ensure all students, no matter where they are in their learning continuum, will find success at Fairhills.  We, as a staff, are focused on continuing to provide a rich education that challenges and extend students in all our learning pathways.

This is an exciting time to be a member of the Fairhills community.  We are confident that 2021 will be a year that celebrates change, improvements and successes, and that all our students will settle into their studies and enjoy their time making new friends at Fairhills High School.

Year 7 Induction Program

Our school began the year with plenty of focus and energy

For those students and families returning for another year we welcome you back with hopes that we will continue to make improvements to Fairhills, with the opportunity for all students to be more involved in their learning and have a greater say about their school. It was great to meet the new Year 7 students and their parents involved in our special induction program on the first three days. The program aims to provide our new members with an overview of the school and key pieces of information they need when beginning their journey into secondary school.

The Year 12 students have made a productive start to their final year of the VCE with students completing their preparations for the first round of school assessed coursework (SACs). As we know Year 12 is not an easy year but by working together with each other, and by using the support and guidance of their teachers to help them, I am sure they will rise to meet the challenge. As part of this support Mr Stokes, the Year 12 Coordinator, organised a one day conference with a variety of motivational speakers and information to help set individual goals and further develop their study skills.

We held our first whole school assembly this week in order to gather together and share information about the upcoming term. Many students are interested and exciting about the house group system and the first major event of the year – the House Athletics Sports. Other announcements included the auditions for the school musical this year “Suessical – The Musical”, based on the works of the famous children’s author Dr Suess. The assembly also gave the change for our 2021 School Leaders to be introduced to the school and to hear from the three students vying for the positions of School Captain.
