Futsal

In Week 6 of this term, ASC futsal teams travelled to Port Macquarie to compete in the East Coast Eagle Futsal Competition. ASC entered four teams: the 19-Boys, 16-Boys, 16-Girls and 14-Boys. Teams were selected from individual performances at the ASC Futsal League held in Term 3. The competition was held over three days, and comprised of both public and private schools from northern NSW.

The ASC 14-Boys Team were scheduled to compete early on the first day, with a number of students having not played futsal at this standard before. It was a steep learning curve and despite the 4am start and a long bus ride to Port Macquarie before competition, team members gave their all and come home with valuable experience and knowledge on what can be improved for next year.

The ASC 19-Boys Team competed the next day, playing exceptionally well and making it to the final. Playing a fast-paced tactical substitution system they took the final to extra time and then to penalty shoot-outs, before coming home with a runners up plaque. Their play set the standard for all the teams watching on.

The ASC 16-Girls Team (pictured at top of page) was scheduled to compete on the last day of the competition. This was the first representative tournament for all team members, but with hard work and lots of laughs they came home knowing they had pushed every opposing team to play at their best.

The ASC 16-Boys Team also played on the last day of competition. Showing their depth of experience, they were able to vary tactics and style of play throughout the day to make the most of tactical weaknesses in opposing teams. They made it to the final and won by one goal in extra time!

Well done to all students!

Under the guidance of Steve Stubbs, who volunteers his time every week to come and instruct, the boys have really improved. To culminate their efforts, Steve is organising for the boys to play a match against some other club members.

Many thanks to Armidale City Bowling Club for the use of their outstanding facilities.
